OCTOBER ?3. 1913 NO. 8 COHMON PLEAS COURT MAKES FAIR PROGRESS BOYS ARE THE CHIEF DESPOILERS OF GAME JUcord of Cm«« Tried Sine* Last Imuo. —Extra Jurors Drawn. Fairly good progress has been made In the trial of civil cases in the past week. On account of the fact that Judge 'Iruber did not arrive from his home in Walterboror until Monday afternoon there was no moniing session of Court. This and the hearing of a motion Tuesday morning reduced the average for the week. Since the last issue of The People the following cases have been disposed of: E. J. Hankinson vs. C. Sc W. C. Ry. Co., verdict for the defendant. Amelia H. Griffin, admr., vs. C. & W. C. Ry. Co., verdict for the plaintiff for $390. R. B. McLemore vs. Southern Ry. Co:; verdict for the defendant. Southern Cotton Oil Co. vs. F. M. Harley and Theresa Harley, verdict for the plaintiff for 11,620.56. John Thompson vs. C. <fc W. C. Ry. Co , verdict of $125 for the plaintiff Mamie S. Boyles vs. Southern Ry. Co. complaint dismissed on motion of mals—penalty plaintiff's attorney without payment of State and Federal Law* Summarised.— Offender* to be Punished. Col. A. A. Richardson, chief game warden of South Carolina, has called attention to the State and federal game laws. “I wish to enlighten the parents of the children relative to the laws,” says Mr. Richardson, “m order to keep them from being fined for violation of the laws. My office is getting reports of violations of the laws. Invariably when these reports are investigated I find that the hunters are boys and small boys at that. So far I have passed these youngsters up with a real good lecture on account of their youth and ignorance of the law, but I can not continue to pass them up and I wish the parents to read the laws and inform their children as to the kind of game they can shoot. “For the benefit of the parents I wish to call attention to the following laws, State and federal: “Section 717, criminal code 1912. Byrnes of the Second district passed through Colum bia last night en route to his home at Aiken. Mr. Byrnes left Washington on Thursday with Congressmen Lever and Ragsdale in the latter’s automobile. He said for the first few days they struck good roads and fine weather, but on Saturday ran into raud in the southern part of Virginia. They reached Win ston-Salem on Sunday night and there Mr. Byrnes caught the train, coming via Charlotte, and reached Columbia last night. He said that his fellow congressmen were continuing their journey south by antomobile and would probably reach Columbia in a day or two. The heavy rains have made the roads almost im passable. The Second district •Representative thinks the senate will hardly finish con sideration of the currency bill before the regular session, for he thinks the Republicans are prepared to talk until that time to make the currency measure go over. How«'« Groat Loodon 5kow Aa long as one can remrmbec there have been tented aggregations tounng the country, and their coming has been heralded by many exaggerated modes of advertising and the making of many promises which were not fulfilled when the show reached town. It is a pleas ure to note that Howe's Great London Show, which is to be here on Saturday, Oct. 25, is a delightful departure from the others. They have a very beautiful system of modestly telling just what they think will prove of interest, and in the telling of it do not allow their advertising to run into a conglomera tion of%neaningless anjectives. They tell it in a plain and convincing way and a way that leaves no room for con tradiction. It has always been the policy of this show since its conception many years ago to deal honestly with its patrons, and this policy has been the keystone of the show’s success. This show boasts of its merits, magnitude and fair dealings. There is not one today who can dispute these claims. They have been too often and too long verified What they say they have to be seen one may rely on the assertion, and the best part of it is they have more than they lay claim to and have never been known to fall short.
