Miss Louise Porter has returned home after a pleasant visit to relatives in Springfield. She was accompanied on her return by Miss Annie May Boylston. Mr. Horace J. Crouch, county super intendent of education, returned from Greenville Thursday, where he attend ed the commencement exercises of Furman University. Mr. Ben Wyman returned to Aiken on Tuesday after completing a term in the Charleston Medical College. Mr. Wyman is now a rising Junior.—Aiken Journal and Review. Mr. S. H. Ussery, of Elko Route No. 1, was in town last week and reported that his cucumber crop is an exception ally fine one this year. He has shipped a number of crates and, with a few^ex- ceptions, they were classed as No. 1 vegetables. The prices are very good. The reception at the Methodist par sonage, tendered by the Rev. and Mrs. W. J. Snyder, to their friends, was largely attended. A petition having been filed in ac cordance with aectioo 1742, general school law of 1912, notice ia hereby iven that an election will be held in Sycamore school district No. 3 on Friday, June 20th, 1913, for the purpose of determining whether or not a special school tax of two r2) mills shall be levied in the above named school district. The said election shall be conducted as is provided by laW for the holding of general elections. The polls will be opened at the school house, and the following trustees are hereby appoint ed managers of election: D. S. Cone, W. H. Mixson and I. H. Harvey. Grubbs has resigned as captain of section No. 1 of the Barnwell County chain gang. He gives as his reason for so doing the recent reduc tion in salary. Miss Veleria Stuart and Mr. Ronald Gyles, of Blackville, are guests of the Misses Helen and Willie Stuart.
