Jamea Henry Rice, once principal of the Barnwell Graded School, went hunt ing near Summerville. Their dog* at tacked a number ot small pig*. Young Rice attempted to beat the dogs off the pig* with the butt of hi* gun The weapon wa* accidentally discharged, the entire load entering the poor little fellow’s body, causing his quick death. Friday was brightened by an inter view with Dr. Clarence J. Owen*, for merly of Williston, now of Washing ton, D C.. where he ably and eloquent ly fits and tills the position of Man aging Director of the Southern Com mercial Congress. His Congress ha* eome to and planted Itself on this pa per’s platform as to immigration and that fact gives greater gladness for the present and better hope for the future • f Dixie. Farmer W., who used to live and la bor East of Jordan Branch, told us several years ago bow he found the road to prosperity.
