Principals and Teachers of the Barnwell County Schools : lhe Barnwell County l air Asso'da^ tion has very kindly given Fr day, Nov 16ih. as Educaiiunal day ior the var ious school* of the County. 1 he committee on Rules and Pro gramme earnestly requests that each ■chool be reoresented in the contests arranged for this occasion. Three priies are ofiered in each contest. The first and second prizes will range in value, cash or merchandise, from one to live dollars. The third prize is to be a ribbon. In the following contest not more than two boys from each school will be allowed to compete in any one race. These event* will be as follows: bOyard dash, 100 •‘•’ - 220 “ 3 legged race, Sack race. High Kick, Hop, step, aud jump. High jump. Broad jump, Standing broad jump, Base Ball throw, Spelling Bee, Tug of war. The last event is open to six boys from any school in the county. The Spelling Bee is otien to any four pupils either boys or girls, from any school in the county. The following contest is open to the common school department of any school in the county. Friends of education througout the county will De interested in some of the salient facts in the progress of ed ucational affairs in Barnwell county. Tills report is based upon figures taken from m; annual report for the scholas tic year ending June 30th 1912 and til ed with the State Superintendent of Education several weeks ago. Education and taxation are the two most important factors in any democra- ticstate. Education creates an intelli gent citizenship, and taxation is lh£ only means of supporting public in stitutions. kSchoo^districts all over the county of issuing bonds and voting levies special to supplement school revenue*. Appleton No. 47 : Shady tIrove No. 52; Richland No. 12 : Ellenton No 63. The last named was created by a special act of the 1913 General Assembly and is formed of parts of Barnwell and Aiken counties This district has almost completed a modern school building and has greatly improved its facilites for school work. Since one of Barnwell’s weak schools was consolidated with the Ellenton school, the educational opportunites have been largely improved in this vicinity. the Richland school district is a consolidation of three schools, Dunbarton, Hickory Groye, and Joyce Branch. The length of this article prevents my making any further comment on this repost, the figures speak for them selves.
