Motor Vehicle* Show Increase Judging by the report of regi.s t rations for the first six months in the year given out Saturday at the highway department in Columbia. Automobile registrations for the ' nix months period totalled 129,790, as compared with 125,963 for the six months period ending June 30, 1 4, while truck registrations amounted to 13,280 fur the first *ix months of this year as compared with 13,281 for a similar period a year ago. Total receipts from all registrations weny $1,6 2 1,1 OH. 25. Automobiles and Irucks ui? on the increase in South Carolina. Registrations of trailers, motorcycles and dealers are, how ever, lagging behind the 1924 sales the figures for the two six months period being: trailers, 564 in 1925 and 380 in 1024; motorcycles., 153 in 1025 and 380 in 1024, and dealers, 476 in 1025 and 563 in 1024. Trans fer* during the period were 2,808, as compared with 2,800 for the same period last year. Registrations have been running for a good part of the year on a par with last years figures, but with the completion of June fig ures an increase is finally indicated. AH receipts from license collections totalled $1,005,337.75, there being a refund of $374,130.50, leaving a bal ance of $1,621,108.25. In the re ceipts by counties in the past six months Lancaster county has paid in to the highway department $20,340.75, Kershaw county, $24,682.35; Chester field county, $30,831.15; Chester county, $30,867; Fairfield county, $15,907,2?*; York* county, $55,728.25; out of state, $7,071. THE ROAD Nine Killed and Ninety-Three Injured in Month of June Columbia, July ,6. ? Nine persons we re killed and %ninety-three injured in automobile accidents on South Carolina highways during jhe month of June. The monthly acvidont report, is sued today by the State Highway Department, shows that of the nine killed two met death when machines collided, one by collision with parked ear, four were killed when cars over turned, one by collision of car with guard rail and #ne a motorcycle rider struck by moving automobile. Of the ninety-three injured thirty five were seriously hurt and fifty eight received minor injuries, the re port says. Thirty-three of the eighty-seven accidents reported were caused by careless driving, twenty-eight by speeding, eleven by recklessness due to liquor, two by skidding and nind by defects of the car, it was shown. Of the automobiles involved in the reported accidents, twenty-four were overturned, twenty-four were driven off the road, seventy-one were se riously damaged and thirty-five slightly damaged. Fifty of the ac cidents , occurred in the, daytime and.i thirty-seven after dark. There were two accidents at railway grade cross ings, eight at public road crossings and seven on or at bridges.
