"No, 1 am dot worried over, the boll weevil," says Mr. R. S. Moon*, of Fork, Dillon County* ? Bolero the boll wevil got here 1 took u gloomy view of the future, but wince he ia here, and I have found out what kind of animal he is I am not afraid of him. The boll weevil and cooperative marketing will save the farmer from bankruptcy. If we had continual to plant every acre of land we could got in cotton the south would have bank rupted itself. At the present time thru- would have been a turplus of i ' -in thirty-five to forty million bales of cotton and the chancer are you couUVnot have sold it at any price. 1 have been farming all my life. Be fore the- boll weevil came along I hud been planting 20 acres to the plow, divided as follows: Sixteen acres in cotton and four acres in corn. From the 10 acres I got on an average of 10 bales of cotton which at the aver* age price of 10 cents a pound gave me $500 <or my cotton. Now 1 am dividing the 20 acres as follows: Six acres of cotton gives me three bales which at an average of 20 cents a pound turns out $800 and 4 acres of tobacco which will average me $200 You will see from these figures that 1 u in getting as much money from 10 acres as 1 used' to get from 16 acres in cotton. That still leaves mo 10 acres. I plant this extra ten acres in corn, peas, wheat, oats, and potatoes When 1 planted 16 acres in cotton, I had to buy the most of my feed and farm supplies, and it took a good por tion of the cash proceeds from the cotton crop to buy the other things which 1 am now raising at home. Sityce I have adopted tJae plan of planting to each .pldw 6 acres of cot ton, 1 acres of tobacco and the other ten acres in feed and foodstuffs, 1 have^-eut my fertilizer bill in half, haVe reduced my farm expenses by 50 per cent, and am building up my lands by a process of rotation." Mr. Moore is one of the largest far mers in the county and farmed so in telligently that he always made money on his farms even before the boll weevil came along. He says his net profits are larger under the di versified plan as' outlined ih the fore going, and even if the boll weevil is exterminated he will not go back to the old plan of planting a large acre age in cotton and buying his feed and foodstuffs from the west. ?
