Slnughter escaped in on autoinohile belonging to Mrs. Dempaey, which was standing in the penMentiary yards. Ho next took one of the guards to the office of the peni tentiary with him and took possession of it, turning the guards on duty over to the men who elected to escape with him. ? The man who killed Slaughter Is J. O. Howard, of finrfnnd County who was serving a three-year term for forgery. 'Hie scene of tlu* shooting is fourteen mllea northwest of Benton in the deep woods. Howard, according to a statement he made at the jail in Hon ton late to night,' had been biding his time to turn upon Slaughter.
