"Aunt" Fannie Meeks, a well known and highly respited old colored woman of tliis place, died last Friday at Ker shavv. where she had gone for few days iti tin* employ of a white family. She reared several children who have turned out to be ex cellent citizens. According to Palsinger, the Germans began firing without ask ing an explanation as to why the two Americans were iu the neutral zone. Palsinger told the American author ities that when ' he and Madison en countered the Germans he was several yards, ahead of Madmon. Palsinger said he dropped his rifle as soon as he saw the Germans, who a second afterwards began shooting at Madison. The Ger maiiH contend that Madison fired at them. Palsinger declared that the Germans fired first anH that if Madison fired at all he did not see him shoot or hear the shot. Palsinger was taken prisoner by the Germans and later turned over to the American provost marshal, Major George Cockreill. and brought to Coblenz. .Minister Gonzales to Peru. Washington. Sept. 10. ? After having been held up in com mittee since he was nominated some time ago to be ambassador to Peru, the full foreign relations ?<ommittee today unani mously aggreed to report for immediate confirmation the name of Capt.
