Clemson College, Feb. i!Jl. ? Recently j a man wrote to the veterinary divls ! ion of Clemson College and requested | immediate information about some un j well animals on his farm. Delay was I dangerous: The veterinarians of the college desired to dispatch an answer to the inquiry as soon as they receiv ed it. Unfortunately, the man had ne glected to tell where Ue llvojl. Many* letters that cannot be an swered come to Clemson College in the course of each month. Some are un answerable because tlie writer does not give his address. Others contain neith er name nor address. A few contain the address, but no name. Finally, there are some that contain both name and address, but so illegibly written that they can with great difficulty be deciphered and then not always accu rately. Here are two good rules for far mers to observe In writing to Clemson College, or to any other large institu tion for that matter. 1. Write name and address very plainly. If necessary, write them in in print letters instead of script. ?J. Whenever possible, address the particular division of the institution which is concerned with the subject of the letter. For example, when writ ing about plant diseases, address the botanical division, instead of merely Cleiuson College. If this rule is ob served. letters will be answered promptly FALL GARDEN AT THE WINTHKOP FARM SCHOOL Iiock Hill. Feb. 23. ? In September and Oi-tober the fall garden was plant ed. The vegetables planted. were pars -try. rrTrrwTs, tiiratjis. Spinach. radishes (winter and spring), parsnips, lettuce, and i in i < wis. Strawberry plants, cab bage and collards, also, were set in the fall. Sweet i>ca and poppy seed were sowed and jonquil, narcissus, and hya cinth bulbs were put out. All of these are only waiting for the first warm sprint; days to set tl*em growing -and soon have theiu ready for use. The * 'old frame is filled with let tuce just ready to head, and the sale of this has already begun. Last year there was realized ten dollars from tlie sale ??f lettuce from this cold frame. There was such a demand for onions it was decided to make an experiment ??f misintf them for the market. A strict account of the money expended In the raising of the onions is being kept and Ju*t as strict an account will be kept when they are sold. In this way the school can tell ^ Just when they n re sold. In this way the school can t I'll just how profitable the onion crop Is. W W.
