A Bright and Beautiful "Clover * Chain," Many of the little girls and boyB were made happy last week by re ceiving the following invitation : '?Will you be a link in our clover chain Wednesday afternoon from 5 to 7." Nancy and Nellies Lindsay. At 5.30 iMrs. Lindsay's pretty homo represented a veritable "bee hive," wiih sixty bees on pleasure bent, and for the time "living in clover." They bound themselves together with the white chain of friendship, and the storm without did not mar their pleasure, uor cloud their happy fanes. Master Nettles and, Miss Nancy played the host and -hostess to perfection ? they knew how to welcome the com ing and speed the parting guests. After the storm had cleared, and all had been served with ice cream and cake, so dear to every childish heart, they went on their way re joicing. The boys wero handsome and galiant, the girls daily and pretty, with their suuny brows crowned with while clover blos soms, which in the years to come will be a happy reminder of child hood's innocent pleasures. The Reunion. ? The Slate* Reunion of (.'on federate Veterans hold in Columbia this wot It han been the most largely attended of any that has yet been held.' The State tippropria*ion of $3 500 seems to, have croato*I thu impression that more would bo done for tlio enter tainn>ent of ilio Veterans than has t)eon heietofore. hut th?so who ex prctod it were disappointed, l'tjssi bly tho coming of 3000 visitors to a city of even Columbia's well known hospitality would be a tax upon it. Certain it is that the arrangement* were not, a? complete fur tho enter? tainmont of the Veterans as they had been led to oxpect. Thoro were very few decorations, and the lunch room which has heretofore been a conspicuous feature of the Reunions, was conspicuous by its absence We beard one old Veteran, who had had a very early broukfast and was anx ions lor a cup of coffee and a sand-' wich, inquire of a bystander "where is the lunch room?" He replied "there is n<> lunch room, and you'll find a good many thing advertised that they havn't got." And bo he found to his cost, for when ho could no longer stand the pangs of bun. ger and to the dinner hall, be found bo could not be accom modated and was forced to jjo to a hotel and pay for bis dinner. Doubt less many others did the sarno. Hut a largo number of them were oared for and bad a good time Tho reception given tho Veterans by the children of t'?e oity schools was ono of tho most enjoyable feat ures of the occasion A hundred lit tle girls in white droseetjand red rjb> bons filled tho stage of the Opera House which was packed to its ut most oapaoity. The way those ohil - dren marched and countermarched and kept perfect tlmo to the music of the orchestra, showed that a mas ter had tbeip in training. As they gavo patriotic recitations and sunp "Tenting on the old Oamp Ground," many an old Veteran could be seen wiping liia eyos. lint when they burst forth in the ever inspiring stratus of ITixie, cnthusirvsin know no hounds and the walls resounded to the echo with the "rebel jell." The war drama.4 For her oountry's sake," was given to a packed house on Wednes day night and was enthusiastically received. The parade on Thursday was largely attended though many hundreds left Ihe city on Wednesday night. We did not have tl>o pleas ure of attending the sponsors' reoep> tioti, but we have been informed by one who was tbere, that the feature of the occasion was the Qddress of Miss Grace Lumpkin, the young daughter of that gallant soldier and unreconstructed rebel MaJ.
