TP HE fashion pendulum swings again *? to the tailored mode. Spring styles this season are trimly smart in a dis tinctive military manner. Wide should ers, fitted hiplines, straight skirts and die buttoning of suits, coats and dress es far over to the left side in a dis tinctively cadet fashion are character istics of the mode. This trend to simplicity of the en semble has made accessories all the more important, according to Maurice Wit, nationally known women's shoe stylist. Shoe manufacturers, appreciating the importance of accessories this season, have made prodigious efforts to give distinctive style to their new shoe models and there is decidedly an in crease in good taste in design. Simple in line, discreet in trimming, they fit the new tailored trend like ham fits eggs on the breakfast menu. )The model shown above is the strik ing ghillie tie, which is destined to b? extremely popular this spring. It is from the collection of smart new styles now being featured by the Thorn McAti stores. Other new spring styles include the watersnake sandal with patent leather trim, which is designed for both street and spectator sports wear; oxfords of soft beige calf with narrow strips of darker leather as trimming, and pumps of dull kid whose only trim ming lies in their unusual light stitch ings. The dominating feature of the early spring shoe mode is the cutout. In all of the styles, whether oxford, strap or opera pump, this idea has been in corporated, in some to such art extent that the shoe consists of little more than a sole held on by numerous straps over the instep and ball of the foot ; usually a heel piece, but not always; occasionally a toe piece, and generally nothing more.
