When I tried to phone him to find out why, either his broth er or motheh (probably on in structions) told me he wasn’t in. I was naturaUy very distressed about this. Then a Uttle over a month ago he went into the army, and this week I received a letter from him telUng me hpw sorry he is over what hap pened, that he now realizes he’s still in love with me, and won’t I please write to him and teU him he’s forgiven. He also slid that he hopes I’U let him see me when he comes home on his first furlough. I had just about re covered from the shock of his treatment of me, and now I don’t know whether to let things start up again or not. JILTED. DEAR JILTED—Any boy who suddenly break* off with his steady girl* without reason and without explanation, Is sadly lacking in character and princi ples. If you do decide to write to him tell him this. Me? Td ignore his letter. DEAR SALLY — We had our first baby five weeks ago, and mailed oqt 30 birth announce ments to relatives and frineds. Up to now, we’ve received five cards of congratulation and six gifts for the baby, and I’m deep ly hurt and disappointed over this poor return. Always in the past I myself have been very conscientious about responding to birth announcements, wed ding invitations, graduation an nouncements, and the like—and many of these 30 relatives and friends can testify as to this, too. So, what do you think about this show of apathy to my announce ment? - H. G. DEAR H. G. — I think you’re being much too commercial about this. After aU, a birth an nouncement is just what the name implies—aa ANNOUNCE MENT — not a request for glftl. So you announced your flodd news. Let it rest there, and stop making yourself so miserable.
