The couple is now living in War- renton, Va., where the groom is stationed. Mrs. Farmer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Burdua of Lake Butler, was graduated from Lake Butler High School. A Clin ton High School graduate, PFC Farmer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Farmer of Joanna. Rev. James B. Mitchell offi ciated at the service, with music by Mr. and Mrs. James Riser, vocalist and organist, respective ly. Marion Turner, Floyd Fuller, Mack Neighbors, and Frank Smith ushered and Shannon Long was best man. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a Chantilly lace sleeveless, scoop - necked, princesse dress with Empire- height jacket featuring a Queen Anne collar. The chapel train was satin, attached at the back waistline in unpressed pleats. Her pearl-embroidered satin half-hat held a fingertip veil and her Bible held an orchid. Attending the bride, Mrs. Shan non Long was attired in pastel blue taffeta and lace, her round necked dress circled at the waist line with a deeper blue cummer bund. Her cap of blue rose petals held a circular veil. She carried a cascade of yellow chrysanthe mums. Wedding gpests included Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Grantham and Miss Gabrielle Bordua of Green ville. Holiday Theme For Bridal Party * Entertaining members of fher club and additional guests, Mrs. C. W. Hogan was hostess for bridge on Tuesday afternoon of the past week assembling players for four tables. The card rooms were beauti fully decorated in a holiday mo tif. Garlands of pine over the mantel framed tall crystal vases of green and gold ornaments on either side and gold angels in the center In the dining room a milk glass compote' filled with gold fruit flanked by brass candle sticks and white tapers center ed the table Between progressions refresh ments of salad, sandwiches, and dessert were served. JAMES TERRT HUGHES —MhkMU Portrait Baptist Ceremony December 17th Unites Martha Jane Horton, James Terry Hughes After a wedding trip to Atl& n ta, Ga . and other points in the south, Mr. and Mrs James Ter ry Hughes were at home at 600 East Ferguson St. Mrs Hughes, the former Miss Martha Jane Horton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Johnnie Earle Horton of 600 East Ferguson St., and Mr. Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs James Herbert Hughes of 401 Francis St., were married Saturday evening, December 17. The Rev. Wesley, soloist, presented a program of wedding music. Mr. Wesley sang, “Ah Sweet Mystery of Life,” "Be cause” and “The Lord’s Pray er,” as a benediction. Organ selections included “Evening Star,” "Angel Serenade,” “Trau- merei,” Meditation from | "Thais'' and the traditional wed ding marches Church decorations included an arrangement of mums and gladioli in the Baptistry above the altar, two seven-branched candelabras with white lighted tapers and at a lower level floor baskets of mums and gladioli on either side of a wedding arch. The attendants day length dresses of blue taffeta were iashioned with dark blue cum merbunds of velveteen fastening in the back with two hand made roses. Their headpieces were matching taffeta crowns trim med with bows and tiny veils and they carried nosegays of white mums and blue lilies of the valley tied with blue rib bons The bride's wedding gown of bouquet talfeta had a lace Inidice styled with sabrina neckline, long lace sleeves The bouffant skirt had lace motifs at the be ginning of the chapel train Her fingertip length veil Irowed from a headpiece of hand made taf feta roses embroidered with pearls. She also wore a single •drand of pearls and tiny pearl earbobs, a'gilt of the groom. She carried a white orchid sun ound- ed by white rosebuds. Following the cremony a re ception was held in the social hall of the church For traveling the bride chang ed to a two piece beige wool jer sey costume suit with brown ac cessories and wore the orchid lifted from the bridal bouquet. Mrs Hughes, a graduate of Clinton High School, attends Jefferson School of Commerce here She is also a secretary at the Charles H. Hughes Real Es tate and Insurance Agency. Mr. Hughes was also graduat ed from Clinton High School and is a ministerial student at Pres byterian College where he is a member of the junior class He belongs to Theta Chi fraternity. SOUTH BROAD ST. Holiday Drop-In At Pitts Home Entertaining at her home on East Carolina Avenue on Satur- day evening, Mrs. Raymond Pitts was hostess for a drop-in from eight until 10 o’clock. The receiving rooms were beautifully decorated in keeping with the season. Pink gladioli and carnations were arranged in the living room with angels and other hand-carved figurines. In the dining room where guests were invited for refreshments served in buffet style, red carna tions in a silver container and red tapers in silver candelabra centered the table overlaid with a white linen cover Assisting Mrs. Pitts were Mr and Mrs. J. B. Hart, Mrs. Hu bert Pitts, Miss Agnes Davis, Misses Lillian Hart, Jane Ann Davis, Jackie Pitts and her visi tor, Miss Nancy Piapp of Stutt gart, Germany, and Stetson Uni versity. The hostess' brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Bultman, of Sumter, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Harris of Columbia, were out of town guests for the party. Joint Hostesses Honor Bride-Elect Miss Martha Jane Horton was honored on Saturday evening, the 10th, with a kitchen shower at the home of Mrs. Carson Na bors on Workman Street in Jo anna. Joint hostesses were Mrs. Alvin Nabors, of Gray Court, Mrs. Luther Nabors and Mrs. John Henry Nabors, of Joanna. A number of the bride-elect's Clinton friends enjoyed the oc casion. Upon arrival she was given a corsage. Games were played and later the hostesses served a salad plate, Russian tea and decorated cake squares, nuts and mints. A seasonal setting for the par ty was effected with native greens, poisettias and red tapers on the mantel and a miniature ceramic Christmas tree Mrs. Benjamin Fetes Popular Bride-Elect A lovely shower complimenting Miss Martha Jane Horton, popu lar bride-elect was given on Tues day evening of the past week by Mrs Arthur Benjamin at her home on Ferguson street. Mr. Jones, a former County Commissioner and former super intendent of the county home, died at the Laurens County hos pital after several weeks of ill ness. A native of Laurens County, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Lula Godfrey Jones. He was a member of Central Methodist Church. He was a grocery mer chant. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cornelia Robertson' Jones; a daughter, Jennifer Ann Jones, of the home; three brothers, Larry and Roy Jones of Laurens; and Clarence Jones of Long Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Pauline Walker, of Laurens.
