Whit mire has a good balanced team with good pitching to back it. Jerry Alexander of Whitmire, took over first place in the batting average, with “Scooter” Holcombe of the Hampton Avenue team sec ond, and Graham of the Whitmire team third. ‘Scooter” Holcombe of the Hamp ton Avenue Pony team leads in strikeouts with fifty. Johnny Alex ander of Whitmire, is second, and Riser of Joanna, third. ‘Scooter” Holcombe also leads in home runs, with five. The record for home runs is held by Melvin Bailey of Lydia, with nine. This was set in the old Pony park when the right field home run fence was only 22S feet. The home run mark on the present Pony field is 250 feet all the way around. LITTLE BOYS LEAGUE The Moose Chib is leading by one game in the Little Boys league. The Exchange and Lions Clubs are tied for second with four wins and two losses. Joanna is in fourth place with three wins and two losses. Jo anna has one make-up game with the K i warns team. Any of the above four teams have a chance to win the Little Boys trophy. Mike Osborne of Joanna, leads in strikeouts, with Teddy Coppick of the Kiwanis team in second place, and David Lambert and Gary Laney of the Moose Chib in third and fourth places, respectively. Gary Laney and David Lambert of the Mopse Club are tied for first place in feme runs, with five each. Donald Watts of the Kiwanis Club, John Henry Lott of Joanna, and Binky Wingard of the Lions Club, have hit four each. Donald Watts of the Kiwanis Club continues to set a blistering batting pace with an average of .006. Mark King of the Lions Club is second with .519, with Francis Cooper of the Exchange Club third with a .488 average. Teddy Coppick of tike Ki wanis Club also has a 488 average, to be tied for third place with Coop er. The Kiwanis team has three out of the first five leading batters at the end of last week. The girls’ softball program is progressing nicely under the direc tion erf Mrs. Fuller Motes. The big girls are undefeated and the little girls have lost two by only one run each time. Their next home double- header is tonight starting at 7:00 p. m. Come out and enjoy some good softball games. All boys’ leagues have two weeks or four ball games each until their season is over. The lead in the little Boys and Small Fry leagues could change very easily by the end of the season The Colored recreation program is getting along fine. They have played games with Joanna and Lau rens. winning moot of the games played. Rev. L. C. Butler is in charge charge of the Colored pro gram which comes under the direc- No regular scheduled league games wil be played the week of the Fourth of July. Clinton will play Laurens several Pony exhibiiton games suiting Saturday afternoon in Laurens. The second game will be played in Clinton Tuesday after noon and the places for the third and fourth games have not been de cided. Games for the Little Boys league with Laurens are also being arranged if it suits Laurens. We hope that they can have a series with Laurens,too. All Little Boys and Pony leaguers that are asked to come out for All- Star practice will start in the mor ning at 9:00 a. m. An afternoon practice is also planned for Friday.
