E-Ha-We Camp Fire Girls Give Tea The E-Ha-We Camp Fire group gave a tea for their mothers in the parlors of the First Presbyterian church on December 17. The girls decorated the room in a lovely holiday motif and prepared dainty refreshments. Julie Bolick, president of the group poured tea. Favors were given to the mothers after the tea. Christmas Program For Methodist Women ,The Woman’s Society of Christian’ Service of Broad Street Methodist church met Monday at the church. With Mrs. E. K. Garrison presiding. Mrs. J. B. Speak presented the program, “Christmas Gifts from Christian Homes.” After the group sang “Joy, to the World”, Mrs. Speake closed the service with prayer. Several parties complimenting' Miss Katrine Martin December J bride-elect were given during the week. j Wednesday at noon Mrs. Carey | Moore, the former Miss Betty Neal Derrick entertained with a luncheon at her home in Laurens honoring Miss Martin. The receiving rooms of the home were lovely with floral arrange ments in the traditional bridal green and white. Place cards in a wedding theme marked the places of the twelve guests at small tables. The hostess’ gift to the honoree was a white carnation corsage and a Mrs. A. S. Maxwell, of this city, announces the engarement of her daughter, Jean, to Rev. Neely McCarter, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. McCarter of Gastonia, N. C. Miss Maxwell is a senior at Maryville college in Tennessee and will graduate in May. Mr. McCarter is the minister to students at the University of Florida. Colonial Employees Entertaned With Party Mr. and Mrs. Van Jones, Mr. and Mlrs. T. J. McCarty, entertained employees of the Colonial Storey and their guests with a Christmas party on Wedneday evening of last week at the McCarty home. Guests were invited into the din ing room where a turkey dinneri was served buffet style from the table adorned with poinsettias, reindeer and a miniature Christmas tree. A mirrored Santa and rein deer scene was effective in the din ing room and in the living room was a colorful tree and an angel scene was arranged on the mantel. Covers were laid for the guests at small tables centered with min A lovely seated tea was given for the bride-elect on Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. Wilmot Shealy. Berries and greenery were used in decoration througout the receiv ing rooms. The tea table overlaid with a green cloth was centered by large red tapers and holly. A rib bon extended diagonally across the table to a silver bowl of white car nations interspersed with silver on one end and the silver service on the other. Mrs. HaiTy Bauknight poured coffee. Mrs. Henderson Pitts also assisted in the courtesies of entertaining and serving a hot course. Miss Martin was presented a camellia corsage and a gift ot china. entertained with a coffee on Thurs day afternoon in the home econom ics department honoring Miss Mar tin. Guests in addition to the faculty included several members of the administrative staff. Mrs. Roily Bannister received the guests and Mrs. Creswell Fleming of Laurens poured coffee which was served with cake by Mrs. Lew is Wallace. The holiday motif was beautiful ly carried out in the table decora tions. A red cover and Christmas napkins were used and holly and cedar adorned the cake plate. The faculty of Clinton high school Saturday afternoon in Gray Court the bride-elect was feted by Mrs. T. A. Willis and Mrs. James Puryear with a bridge party. A pink carnation corsage was given Miss Martin to wear and lat er she was presented crystal in her chosen pattern. Seasonal decorations were used as a setting for the four tables. Fol lowing hte games salad and sweet courses were served with hot punch. Mrs. W. Roy Pitts was a refreshment guest and others from Clinton attending were Mrs. Harr}’ Bauknight, Mrs. Billy Pitts and Mrs. Tom Ficklin. Miss Viv ian Parks Adair will show color slides of the coronation and Europe. Miss Adair attended the corona tion and made a tour of the Europ ean countries early in the summer. PRATHER-SIMPSON FURNITURE CO. “The Home-Makers” County Farm Bureau Wins First Place Membership Contest According to an announcement from state headquarters, the Lau rens County Farm Bureau won the 1953 membership contest in the Piedmont district. The award entitled the county bu reau to send one of its members to the American Farm Bureau con vention held last week in Chicago. Frank Baumberger, president of the county chapter reported that the board of directors chose Lawrence Cook of Gray Court to be the rep resentative. Mr. Cook who was re cently elected a county director, was accompanied by his wife who is president of the County Council of Farm Women. The chapter increased its mem bership from approximately 315 to over 425 during the contest and more have been added since the contest closed, Mr. Baumberger said. He expressed the appreciaiton of the Farm Bureau to the member ship committee for the work it did during the contest which made the drive successful. “It is this kind of cooperation,” he said, “which makes the Farm Bureau the greatest farm organiza tion in the world.” The Piedmont district is com posed of Abbeville, Union, Cher- kee, Newberry, Saluda, Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Edgefield, McCormick and Laurens counties. Cub Scout Den Christmas Party Den 1 of the Cub Scouts enjoyed' a Christmas party on Thursday! evening at the home of Mrs Wayne O. Wood, assistant den mother, on South Owens street. Mrs. Leroy Sanders is den mother. The boys drapped presents for their parents and then a number of games were played.
