Dean-Parrish Miss Bernice Dean and Jack Dan iel Parrish were married April 30 at 3 o clock in the afternoon at the Baptist parsonage in the presence of relatives and close friends with Rev. James B Mitchell officiating. The bride wore a rose gabar dine suit with white accessories. Her corsage was of red roses and white carnations. , ' Immediately following the rites Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parrish enter tained at their home where ttie wedding cake was cut. Later in the afternoon the couple left for a wedding trip to Charles-, ton. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dean of Joanna. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parrish also of Joanna. Magnolia Lodge Will Meet Saturday, May 7. Magnolia Lodge No. 355. AFM, will hold its regular communication at 7:30 o’clock. After the meeting, the EA degree will be conferred. • \ Woman's Club To Meet Members of the Joanna Woman’s club will meet tonight (Thursday) at 7 o’clock. Mrs. Luther Wright’s! group will have charge of the social hour. Merchant-Longshore Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Mer-! chant announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Ruth, to John Tay lor Longshore of the Bush River community. The vows were spoken j at the Lutheran parsonage in New-1 berry by Rev. C. J. Riser, May 1, using the double ring ceremony. Miss | Evelyn Merchant, sister of the bride, was the only attendant. For her wedding the bride chose a lavender crepe dress and white top per, with brown and white access ories. She wore a corsage of Sweet heart roses. After a honeymoon in Florida the young couple will be at home with the bride’s parents on Pickens street Kelly-Gaffney Mr. and Mts. H. H. Kelly announce the marriage of their daughter, Elsie, to AR Hillian Tom Gaffney of Whit mire and Norfolk, Va. The wedding was solemnized April 21 at the YM- CA chapel in Norfolk with Chaplain W G Tennant officiating. The bride will make her home with her parents on Magnolia street at present. Ever-Ready Class Meets . On last Tuesday evening the ladies Ever-Ready Sunday school class held their quarterly business meeting at the church. Mrs. E. H. Hunnicutt gave a wor ship program using “The Lord's Praye/’ as a theme. Miss Louise Waldrop sang "The Evening Prayer'* in closing. ,| During the business hour Mrs. Joe Abrams, president, presided. Va rious reports were given and busi ness questions discussed. The hostesses, Mesdames E. R. Prater, J. C. Simpson, C. R. O’Dell and Vinia Cooley, served a ham burger supper with drinks, buffet style. Whitlock-Johnson Miss Macy Whitlock of Clinton be came the bride of Claude Johnson April 24 in Newberry. The judge of probate performed the ceremony. The bride wore an aqua crepe dress with brown and white access ories. After a honeymoon in Georgia the couple will be at home here on Till man Circle. Gov. Thurmond will speak. The meetings and buffet supper for the two groups will begin at 5:30. After the business hour and the supper the members of the Wom an’s club will join the Men’s club for the governor’s talk and a social hour. Overseer of Year D. J. (Doc) Buchanan was named “Overseer of the Year” at Joanna Cotton Mills in recognition qf his hard work and interest toward the goal of improved operations with no thought of reward. The weave room No. 1 at the Jo anna plant, which is under the lead ership of Mr. Buchanan, has made the greatest improvement and the most worthwhile contributions to the operations of the plant, it was de cided. The entire department was also commended for the quality and quantity of goods produced the past year. Mr. Buchanan also received a cash award.
