Surprise Birthday Party On last Saturday several friends of Mrs. Maggie Marshall pleasantly surprised her with a party in honor of her birthday. About 25 guests werfe present. Nabors has returned to 1 his hpme after an operation at a hos- pital in Winston-Saljem, N. C. [ 2^ Grandpa Turner of Fort Mill, for- erly of Goldville, suffered injuries in a fall several days ago. He is ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Floyd Osborne, at Fort Mill. Mrs. Sallie Ann Finney is ill at Hays hospital. « ■■. . —. Mrs. Sallie Finney Passes Mrs. Sallie Ann Furr Finney, 56, died Tuesday afternoon at Hays hos pital in Clinton following a linger ing illness. She was a native of North Carolina but had made her home here for 38 years. She was a member of the Goldville Baptist church. She is survived by two sons, R. C. Lunsford of Clinton, and H. F. Fin ney of Charleston^ two -daughter*, Mrs. W. N. Brazel and Mrs. R. C. Craven, both of Goldville; three brothers, J. L. of Clinton, W. T. of Goldville, and P. C. Furr of Green wood; two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Smitn of Goldville, and Mrs. T. M. Smith of Newberry, and two grandchil dren. Funeral services were held-Wed nesday afternoon at 5 o’clock at the Goldville Baptist church, conducted by Rev. M. A. Bryant, assisted by Rev. James C. Dickert. Interment followed in Hosemont cemetery at Clinton. FRIDAY and SATURDAY I ■ ■ ■ ■ Wesly Chcmbers Pupils Give Dance The ballroon class of Le Wesley Chambers’ Ec(.:e des Ballets held their final formal dance on Satur day in the ballroom at the Clinton Hotel. The dining room was decor ated in spring flowers with greens and pastel streamers along the walls and on the lighting fixtures. The center of the decoration was the punch table decorated in red rose buds and ivy with a large crystal bowl in the center. Punch was serv ed by Mrs. M. A. Macdonald* Mrs. Layton Frazer, and Mrs. J. Leland Young, mothers of the members of the refreshment committee for the dance. . During the evening dancing was enjoyed with dancing games at in tervals. A grand march and a conga ling were part of the program for the ■ i evenmg. Committees for. the dance were: Chairman, Carroll Hart. Decoration, Caherine Eichelberger. Refreshments, Patsy Macdonald and Ellen Frazer. Invitations, Chris Patte and Ken neth Baker, Jr. Wesly Chambers, instructor of the school, announces that with the bal let recital on Tuesday evening, May 11, the dancing school would be closed forithe season. Rites For Former P. C. Student Held Tuesday ■ —-♦ The body of Second Lieut, Roddy Ansel Martin arrived Tuesday at his home town in Mullins. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock jfrom Cox Funeral home in Mullins with interement following at Cedar- dale. Lt. Martin, 21, was a native of Mullins and a graduate of Mullins high school. He was a prominent football player and attended Presby terian .college where he was - an oul- standihg athlete. He entered the army in his junior year at college and trained at Camp Wheeler, Ga. He was sent overseas in 1944 and while crossing the English channel the transport on which" he was a pas senger was sunk by a torpedo. He received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit citation. Lt. Martin had a pleasing dispo sition and made many % friends While he was in Clinton.
