The secret of the party was So well kept that not until the guests ar rived did "Mr. Jacobs know that he was the-* honoree. Besides Mr. Jacobs, .snbther gpest of honor was Miss B. Copeland, whose birthday was the same day. Soon after the guests arrived they were invited in to the dining room. The table was beautifully decorated, the centre- piere being a birthday cake rr which were numerous small red ca; dies. Red hearts and cupids wit': red candles were used in profusion. The dinner was served in four courses to the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Copeland, Mr. Pringle Copeland, Miss B. Cope land. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, Sr., Mr. Thos. D. Jacobs and Miss »Clara Duckett. Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. W, H. Shands entertained the fol lowing guests at dinner: Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Copeland, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Copeland, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, Sr.* .and Miss'Clara Duqkctt, The dining room looked lovely with its decorations of yel low daffodils and jonquils. In the middle of the table was a large cut glass basket, filled with ferns and daffodils with yellow Julie decora- ti«*ns and -w.as fianked with tapers in yellow holders. A course dinner was served by M'jsses Shands and Minims. The evening was a most enjoyable one. An attractive and thoroughly enjoyable affair was the meeting of thi? young Ladies club on Saturday evening with Miss Peggy Dunlap. The guests were invited into the dining room where a delicious ceurse supper was served. The table was attractive In its decorations of red, white and blue, the ’guests finding their places by little patriotic cards. Over the table was a large Unit ed States flag. The centre-piece was presumably a portion of George Washington’s cherry tree and mi and around it were a number of hatchets, each of which held the fortune of a member of the club. Af ter supper these were drawn and — - —-• V • • v read aloud, causing much amuse ment. Sewing and conversation wore enjoyed, making the evening a most pleasant one. Again on Tuesday afternoon Miss Emmie Robertson was hostess to this club. In spite of the inclem ent weather a good time was had. The hostess served a delicious luncheon. An evening that will he long re membered by those 1 taking pert in its pleasure was that on Monday when Miss Nell Copeland enter tained at a birthday dinner. The dining table was decorated in the National colors and guests found their place by a tiny United States flag. A delicious six course din ner was served. Much fun was had when little Miss Lydia Vance Copeland appeared with the birth day cake, bringing it in on a silve waiter. The cake was cut and for tune favors were cut from it by the following young folks: Mr. Flan agan cutting the thimble, the heart going to Miss Thelma Coffman, the wish-bone to Mr. Sims, the money to Mr. Hay and the button to Miss Nell Copeland. The guests who enjoyed this pleasant evening with*Miss Cope- given to each member and they were told to “pull” and from the pic each member drew a box of candy. Those present with Miss Cope land were Misses Rowena Jones. Sybil Burtlette, Marie.Cosby, Nan Copeland’and Mary Henry. An interesting contest was enjoyed, each member of the club seeing, how many words they could make out of the name, George Washington. Miss Rowena Jones proved to be most successful making in all eighty-six words. The dining room then proved.the attraction where Jhe Washington spirit was prevalent. A big cherry pie in the middle of the table was of much interest. Ribbons were A very interesting game of basket ball was thaj on Monday evening at the Presbyterian College gym. between P. C. and Newberry. A large crowd witnessed the game, P. C. winning by a score of 2f> to 10. On Thursday night the P. C. team expects to play Wofford .and this game, will be one of the best played this year.
