The ex-1 msion could make a detour by ray of L>othan in order to avoid parallel with the Atlantic Coast ane and thereby open up a rich arming section. The country inervening is level and the grading ould be done at comparatively mall cost. We make the sug;estion for what it is worth. The onnection would give Latta raiload facilities equal if not suerior to Dillon's. The Dillon Herald says that he fact that the governor is havng the held notes of the surveyrs in the Dillon county matter ) echecked "does not mean that lovernor Ansel suspects that any rrors exist in the surveyors' rork." Marion 1 tar. i Well, so many leading men of larion have said t;me and again liat if we could comply with the [institutional requirements in' jgard to area (that is if old Mar- j m contained more than 900 square hies) they would net oppose the irnvition of the new county, jj liat we have come to suspect the overnor is rechecking the surey in order to satisfy himself kiit tlio iirpn i< rpiillv 1 ln?rr? nnrl rill give us the county without an! lection, just f ?r economy's sake, j lov. I We have learned from private ourees thai a movement is on jot in Horry to bond the county in ?200,000 for the purpose of abiding macadam roads and steel nidges. Th * man behind the iiovenient is one of llorry's nost substant'al and progressive itizens, but like most niovenents which have for their bject the betterment of the eonlition of the masses, there is trong opposition to the scheme, lorry's road and bridge levy, 'A n t rn , KJ A UI\J Pays for a year's subscription to Ion Herald. The money is spent in patch work and year after year the people continue tc haul their produce to market over sandv roads and dangerous bridges. A bond issue of $200,00^, no doubt, would build permanent highways and bridges 1 all over the county and if the in- j terest did not exceed 5 per cent. ; the people would save the neat lit- ' tie sum of $10,000 every year, to | say nothing of the saving in wear, and tear on stock and vehicles. We have nothing to do with Horry's matters of public policy, but merely call attention to this movement for good roads in another county to show what might be done right here at home.
