March 25, 1909. th C At the Opera House. st On rext Friday night, the 26th- st the beautiful comedy drama, "In- p* gomar, the Barbarian" will be ^ - - - T* presented at the Opera House, byl A Mr. and Mrs. Edourd D'Oize of ^ Baltimore, well and favorably remembered in Dillon on account of u' their memorable presentation here ^ last year of the great play, "Damon and Pythias." ^ "Ingomar" is a, play that one m never tires of seeing, and it never fails to please the most critical 'ia audience. It will be given at the cr Opera House for the benefit of the Graded School Grounds. Mr. D'Oize will appear as the a Barbarian Chief, Ingomar, in re which part he will be seen to the in best advantage. Mrs. D'Oize will ,, play the part of Parthenia, the beautiful Greek heroine, who re gives herself up to the Barbarian tribe to rescue her aged father from slavery. Prof. W. W. Nickels for the part of Ingomar's lientenant, A- ai lastor; Dr. Michauxwill be Myron, the father of Parthenia and ai Miss Michaux will be Acter, his wife. Professor Gentry has the ^ part of mayor of the ancient city of Massilia. The others in the cast include H Miss Nettie McKenzie. Prof. Hays, W. A. Blizzard, Ben Badg- a cr. One of the uiost brilliant affairs iat has ever taken place in Dilin was the reception given on riday afternoon by the members f the Civic League to tho ladies Dillon. The officers of the eague, Mesdames L. Cottingam, F- B. David, C. R. Taber ad D. M. Michaux received at le main entrance and Mesdames . S. Browne and A. J. Evans ood at the first landing of the airs to conduct the guc _.cs to the irlor. Mesdames E. T. Elliott, . B. Sellers, W. Murchison, W. . Bethea, and Miss Nettie Mcenzie entertained in the parlor. A table was fixed in a side door x>a which was an elegant cut ass bowl from which Misses Virnia Nicrnsee and Annie Alford rved punch in a very graceful anner. When a number of the guests id arrived, refreshments o f earn and cake were served in the ning room where Mr. Carmi:ael furnished sweet music with phonograph. After the guests turned to the parlor the followg delightful program was given: 1. A splendidly written paper Purpose and work of the League'' ad by Mrs. L. Cottingim. 2. Piano Solo. Miss Baughan. 3. "Work of the Civic League" 1 able paper, Mrs. P. B. Sellers. 4. Piano Duet, Misses Eulah id Beulah Braddv. 5. Vocal Solo, "My Dear," liss Ethel Fitzgerald. 6. Piano Solo. Mrs. Willis. 7. Piano Solo. Miss Rena iracy. This reception seems to have wakened more interest in Civic eague work. Twelve new meniers gave in their names and lany declared their intention of limning.
