ORCHARD AND GARDEN NOTES. Clemson College, February 22.? The second worming for the peach tree borer should be given at this time. ' It is not too late to prune bunch grapes. In fact, this type ol grape can be successfully pruned even after the buds begin to swell. Prune them now and secure a good crop this year. ; February is an excellent month for transplanting fruit trees. Now is a good time to start a home orchard. The following are excellent varieties of small fruits ?'or the home planting;!, ucretia dewberry, Cuthbert raspberry, and Eldorado blackberry. The following vegetables may be transplanted to the garden now; Early Jersey Wakefield and Charleston Wakefield cabbage: Big Bos ton and Improved Hanson lettuce. Good resuts may be secured from a planting: of the garden peas. Alaska, Nott's Excelsior, and Horsford's Market Garden are excellent varieties. The Irish Cobbler is the best early variety of potato for the home garden. Naturally. "Do you believe in heredity?' "Of course I do. Why. Two cars of hogs from Beaufort County and one car from Bamberg County were shipped co-operatively recently by farmers of those counties with the aid of County Agent C. L. Baxter, of Beaufort, County Agent J. "n Rmn/lnn of Ramhpre. and Exten sion Marketing Agent L. H. Lewis. The hogs were sold to the Carolina Packing Company and shipped to its plant at Wilmington. The price received was very satisfactory; namely, ten cents per pound at Wilmington, which was the same as the Chicago price that day. The co-operative shipping therefore, saved to the farmers the considerable difference in freight as well as the charges for ! lottage, extra feed, commission, and j loss through shrinkage. Mr. Lewis reports that there will be a half dozen or more additional desIgns^ Wedding Bouquets, FLOWERS, For all occasions shipped anywhere. CHAS. L. SLIGH FLORIST. 1446 Main St Phone 2761 COLUMBIA.
