" The Southern Serves the South." NEW WAY TO MAKE UP LABOR SHORTAGE Williamsport, Pa., Nov. 10.-Lycm ingcounty, Pennsylvania, has devised a method of making good the farm labor shortage that is really making good. The plan is to enlist the ser vices of business'men and other city .workers for Sunday jobs at harvest ing. - L. J. Fisk, superintendent of state employment bureaus in zone No. 5 is promoting the plan which has been in operation the past two Sundays and has scored a big suc cess. The first Sunday thirty-eight men from Williamsport selected "way down yonder in the cornfield" as their destination, cut forty acres and husked 125 bushels of corn for which they were paid $2.50 each and their transportation by a . well-pleased farmer. They were captained by a jeweler who gave them the slogan, "Save the-crops and win the war." Last Sunday 80 men lined up for a bout with the crops. Result: 12 acres of corn cut, 1800 bushels of corn husked, 500 bushels of corn and nine loads of buckwheat hauled in. One farmer estimated that the corn husking and hauling cost only about 11 cents per bushel. Superintendent Fisk says he can put 300 men out next Sunday if the farmers will make timely applica tion for workers. Statc of South Carolina, County of Clarendon Court of Common Pleas. S. M.
