Cuullng hanl presided oe-r the meeting. Speeches wert mail-: by Ciigrcssman Wyatt Aiken and his opponent. Mr. 1. H. NIcCalla. Solicitor Thos. S. Sease made a few remarks. His p ponent. Representativc Cooper. of Laur-ns. was not at th neeting. Congressman Aiken referred with pride to his recoird of two year. Il congress, calling especial attexItion to the work which he had done in in creasing the rural rontes and to his bill which passed congress increas ing the pay of the rural carriers. He made a good speech and received good attention. Mr. I. H. McCalla attacked the bu reau of immigration in this state, saying that all legislative candidates o.ught to be questioned as to their po sition on this matter. He spoke at some length. promising to do his duty if elected and to look after the every interest of his people. Solicitor Sease. as stated. made on .ly a few remarks. his oppenent being absent. He appreciated what the people of Newberry county had done for him in the past and asked a con tinuance of their support. The Other Meetings. The campaign opened at Pomaria on Tuesday, but owing to the fact tht the crowd was small 'there were no speeches. At Prosperity on Wed nesday a good meeting was held in the town hall, between seventy-five and one hundred voters being pres ent. Addresses were made by Messrs. Aiken and McCaUa. The meeting yesterday was held at Longshoie and was attended by about seven-ty-five people. It was a good meeting and pleasant throughout. The campaign will close at Whitmire in -Saturday afternoon. there being no other meet ing until that *rime. Laws a Small Part. "Tomorrow," said the lawyer, ac cording to the Chicago Inter-Ocean. "I will have to begin the cross-ex amination of the fair plaintiff." His face showed that he was -crou bled. "It will have to be carefully plan ned and executed," he added, after a pause. "What will?" inquired the unso phisticated youth. "Why. The verdict in this case is likely to rest on the tempor ary possession of a bit of linen, and. lace.
