PROSPERITY NEWS. Prosderity's Development in the Recent Past and Her Bright Future. Personal Notes. Prosperity, S. C., October 28. Mr. E. A. Counts- has about com pleted his residence on Elm Street and expect to move next week. Mr. R. I. Stoudemayer is rapidly moving along the building of Dr. Jacob S. Wheeler's dwelling on the beautiful site formerly occupied by the door and sash factory. The erection of other buildings is being talked of, and this expansion is in accord with the demand for houses. The future is before us. A new spirit is evident among our people. It is true that there are divisions among us, but common business prudence will direct this to the greater progress of our town. The field is open and is wide enough for the activities of all. Without uni ted action a cotton seed oil mill has been a possibility, and now the open field.for a cotton mill is en gaging attention, and this oppor t unity will not be passed over much longer. Our town has had a hard climb up grade and has met with many backsets, but the top of the grade, we believe, is nearly reached. We are not now deplortng the want of Unity among our people--for unity often produces stagnation but we would rather set onr faces toward the rising stn; and let there be rivalries, even though somewhat bitter at times, still the general good of the town will be subserved. With our two banks as radiating centres, there should go out waves of industrial enterprises that would make joy in our hearts. This is Fair week and many of our people are going and coming. Rev. Jas. D. Kinard, of Leesville, is visiting our community this week. Mr. and Mrs. L H. Kinard will leave here in a few (lays for Atlanta, where tl:ey will make their future home. We regret. indeed to lose those good people but our good wishes follow them to their future home. Mr. B. L. Wheeler, who has been at various points serving as Inail clerk, has been assigned work be tween Atlanta and Greensboro. He is here a few days before begin ning his new run. Mr. A. H. Kohn, of Columbia, was witt, us a part of this week. Mrs. L. T Brown, of Spencer, N. C., is ere visiting among friends and relatives. Mrs. A. E. Boiniest is visiting in town. Miss Gertrude Simupsoni, of the Newherry Graded Schools, is sp)end ing the Fair holidays in Prosperity. Mr. J. Burr Stockmian was mar ried this wveek to Miss Cora Boozer. This happy couple will take in the Fair and will miake a trip) to Jack sonville, Fla.,. and other points of inte rest. Miss Dominick, of Phoenix, Ab b)eville county, is visiting Mr. A. G. Mr. F. R. H-uter and John B. H-unter, Esq., of Newherry, were on our streets this week. Mr. R. H-. Russell was wvithi us one (lay this week. Letter to Carolina Manufacturing Co., Newberry, S. C. D)ear Sirs: Mr. *----, President of a cotton miii at Union, S. C. -- -he dIon' t want to see his name in print-had two ofTers of 500 gallons of p)aint: $1.30 and $2.25. Took t he $1.25; and1( got skinned. Il e'd have got three-quarters skinned if he'd takeni the other. The $1.30 was full-gallon; the $1.25 was 18 per cent. short. The full-meas ure p)aint was adullteratedl 40 per cent..; the short-measure paint was adulter ated 415 per cent., besides benzine in the oil, dion't know how much. Devoe leadl and zinc wvasn't so1ld in the town then. It don't pay to monkey with paint. Devoe costs less than any of 'em; not by the gallon, of course; by the house andl year. That's how to reckon it. Go by the name. Yours truly, F. W. Dh.voi: & Co., New York. P.
