The Pageland Journal r Published Wednesday Mornings I by The Journal Company C. M. Tucker, Editor Subscription Price - - $1.00 j Entered as second-class mail 1 matter at the post otfice at Page- ] land, S. C., under Postal Act of March 3,1879. July 19, 1916 < i The orchard owners recover- < ed from their storm fright in i 4nrntbnr ??r\ mnntr nn_ liiuc iv ^auivi u\j iiiv uiauj appies beaten oft by the wind and make them into cider. ^ The first estimates of the dam- { age to crops were probably too < high. We believe a few days i will make such a difference in the prospect that the most pessimistic will agree that it could have been worse. 1 There are several candidates ( for office in this county who 1 have announced in only one pa T^I 1. _ 1 per. i ney, pernaps, ao noi want votes from other sections of the county, and they will not likely get any too many. 1 1 Look out for mosquitoes now. 1 The rains have filled every old ' can, bucket and hole with water. 1 Before you think of it the little ' wigglers will appear, and then it is but a very short time until the full grown mosquito begins to sing and bite. Pour out the water in the cans, buckets and , pots. Drain or oil all the holes < and ponds where water stands, i Wiggletails are young mosqui- | toes, you know, and if you keep , down the wiggletails you have no mosquitoes. WE LOVE THEM FOR THE CASH ONLY ( This paper is absolutely non- , partisan in county and district j politics. So far as he knows the ] -^ uter is on triendly terms.with every man who is seeking office in the county or district. No issues are at stake. It is to be \ merely a selection of individuals to fill the offices. To be sure j the writer has his choice, but the other man has a right to his also. 1 This paper is neither fighting for not against any of them. It has space for sale at the very < Inur roto ^ ^ IX tun mib \jl ivycivc auu a null ! cents an inch for the first inser- i tion, and 10 cents for the second. This is as cheap as this paper can fight for any one of the many, and then the "dope" must he furnished by the aspiring one. If a man has special qualifica- ( tions for filling an office better ! than the other man we shall be ' glad to assist him in giving the 4 facts to the public at the regular rate. This is the only fair method to all. This paper will < carry a message a column in < length to thousands of people 1 for only two dollars and a half. 1 low many homes can you reach in person for this amount? In a carefully written article you can say the right thing in the right ] way, while you might not say i what you would like to say in j an off hand conversation. News- , paper space is being used more j and more by the candidates who ] are quick to see and grasp an j opportunity. Why don't you try ( it? When the rich man brought his son for entrance to the state j college he told the president he < wished a short course. "The boy can never learn nil you teach here/* said the father. I "Can you arrange it for him so i he'll go through quick?" 1 "Oh, yes," said the president; 1 "he can take a short course. It all depends upon what you want to make of him. When God s wants to make an oak He takes 1 a hundred years, but He takes i only two months to make a i squash."
