MA RoIAnET CAMP nEara.-Intlligenco was received, on turday lat, of the death of Mrs. Magarot Caimpbell, the mother of Rev. W. H. Campbell. Mrs. Camp b)e11 spent the greater portion of her life in Winnel )ro, andl had here many warm frads. She was of a generous disposition,. and was con stantly doing acts of kindness to those with who'm she came in con tact. A communicant of the Pres biyterian Chnrch, she led1 a life of consistent and unosten tatious Chris tian piety. She had lived to a rip~e old1 age, being, at -the time of her denth, in her eighty-third year. Her romains were interred at Catholic Church, n,ear Bilackstock, in this county. Row 1N yAL U lay morn ing last, Andy Emerson, the jailor, was attacked by two of the prisoners and but for his nerd'.and ~pluck would have beon severely used( up. He fired two shots at one of the attackings party, and then used his pistol as a club. The difficulty had, its ox igin in the -refusal of Sam Stone, a prisoner, to deliver up some money belonging to another pr-ison er, after having been ordered to do so by the jailor. Sam waus the ag also a plisoner, came to his assist ance very soon after the row com ionced. Both of these "birds" are now in irons, and will no doubt be kept secure. "TH. Boys IN GREY."- We Were wont to admiro the boys who wore the grey, though it was not for the grey alone, ut for the noble, chrivalrous hearts that beat under it. They commanded the admira tion of the true and the bravo in every land. But how few admire a fine head envoloped in grey hair and whiskers----very few. We all love admiration, and nothing in our ap pearance is more calculated to secure it than pretty. hair. If old age, sickness or sorrow liars robbed you of it, you can regain it by the use of Dr. Tutt's Hair Dye. Ita poptilari ty is so groat that it can be found on the shelves of every druggist in the land. The County Convention. It is porhapsi proper that we should make an explanation of the urgent call we mado upon the dele gates to tho County Convention to attend At this place on Saturday last -when, indeed, no meeting was con. templated or desired by the County Executivo Committee. Up to the time of an extra meeting of that Committee, held on Thursday of court week, it had been our impres sion that the meeting would be held As no meeting cminie off, we presume that some action was then taken to postpone it. We were argently re quested by more than one gentleian interested, to announce the (onven ti'm and urge its importance. Those, we were justified in believing, were well informed oi the subject ; and the first intimation we received of a postponeent was a statement made to us on Friday last-after the issue of THE NEWS AND HERALD. We owe our readers an apology for having rimsed a false alarm-and we havo made it. But still we hope the next County Convention will be well attended. Subscribe for TH. When our last issuie was pul)ish ed, the situation in Colunbita was na follows : The Supreme Cohrt had issued a poremptory mandoeynas to the Board of Stato Canvasscrs, or dering them to issuo cortificates to those candidates-except for govern or and lieutenant-Govornor-appoar ing on the face of the roturns to be elected.-This gave the Democrats a majority of four in the Houso of Ropresentatives, and the Radicals a Majority of threo in the Senato. On Wednesday morning, whilo .the Su promo court had bofore it the entire matter, and while Co binl, the coun So' for the Board, was asking for time, the Board met, declared all the Radical candidates for State oflicers elected, and ordered cerlifi cates of election to be given to all the members elect of the Logislature, exce)t thime frn ARel iild eInd Laurens. They corrected the mis takes in the comImtissiolevs' roturns, with regard to Diun and Tolbert, but left untouched those with re poect to Conner an)d1( M)ise. Having done thoso thinge, the Board, about noon on Wednesday, tlc 22nd inst., adjourned sine die / This win in direct disobodience to the positivt nundato of the Supremo Court and that triblnail was not slow t< assert its dignity. The view taken by the Court of this proceeding may be judged frmI1 the following strong language used by Associate Justice Willard, while the Conrt had undem consideration tho contempt con mitted: "Here we have just made a solen.i decision in which H.
