The little fa-Id. the smiling field, "With sill its ffmversn blowing. How hup: y looks the golden field The day ludora the mowing' And still "nealh the departing light. Twilight, though void of stars, Save where, low westering, Venus hides From the red eye of Mars: How quiet is the silent field "With all its beauties glowing: Just stirring?like a child asleep,? Sharp steel, inevitable hand, Cut keen, cut Kiml! .Our ficM "We know full well must be laid "low Before its wealth it yield ; Labor and mirth and plenty blest Its blameless death bestowing; And yet wo weep, aud yet we weep, The night before tlie mowing* The object contemplated in Mr. Ashley's resolution of impeachment is the removal of the President from office, in order that the government in which Thad. Stevens is the controlling power, may be perpetuated. The President deserves to be impeached?richly deserves it; but not upon the grounds the Radicals claim. The citizens of the North, like a race of Cains, have imbued their hands in the blood of their brethren without just cause or provocation. The treacherous, malignant, and devilish cabal at Washington told us it was to preserve the Union and uphold the supremacy of the Constitution. The result has proved the reverse. The war was waged to subjugate and impoverish the South, to rob them of their slaves and hold the people in cold-blooded vassalage at the feet of a New England obligarthy. The war was not waged to preserve +bn TTnirtr, oml imlirthl 11 n> Cnnxtitn UiQ VHiVU UUVI uj/?.v*v, . ? w ~ tion; but it was waged to destroy the one and subvert the other :and before God the dread thing lias been accomplished. "We say the President deserves to be impeached. When he found out that the Radical Congress disregarding Constitutional obligations; disfranchising entire States and keeping legally elected Representatives from their seats in the halls of legislation; when he saw that a band, of usurpers were bent upon wiping out ten States from the Union aiitl ^ ?rr-xjfrniqi fnvfVli? f-,">_otlici'Ferenewed lease O' pnwr a:;U to in ?'* fy sectional hate, lie should have arrayed the forces at his command and driven the lawless ruffians out of Washington at the point of the bayonet. The people would have rallied in defence of their Constitutional rights and privileges, and would have upheld him in every measure to pro tcct the integrity of the Union. It may he, that we shall vet have to prepare for such a contest. If such should conic,? which Heaven avert?the memories of the past, and the humiliations of the present, will tell most fearfully upon the cowards and dastards who arc lording it so arrogantly over a proud, but submissive and defenceless foe. Maelccnsae/c (N. J.) Democrat. Corns.?An exchange says : ' "Put the feet for half an hour, two or three successive nights, in a pretty strong solution of common soda. The alkali dissolves the indurated cuticle, and the corns fall out spontaneously, leaving a small cavity, which soon fills. The receipt is vouched for by an exchange as a certain remcny. Ml -i'l'. A fcjiioulcl it prove so, it win entitle tue author to the heartfelt thanks of many a sufferer. . We know the ahove remedy for corns to he effectual. We have tried it, and found it act like magic. But we do not think a strong solution is desirable. We know of a friend who tried the remedy on our recommedation, but ho made the solution of soda so strong that, with the corns, it took off a portion of the skin on the foot. From one to two table-spoonfuls of soda in a small foot tub of hot water is sufficient to remove the corns, by letting the affficcted member remain in it ten or fifteen minutes. Columbia Plioenix Hon. J. McCalcb Wilcv, Congressional representative elect from the Montgomery (Alabama) District, has just returned from Washington, and expresses the conviction that Alabama and other unrepresented States would be restored to the Union on the adoption of the Constitutional amendment, and that a liberal policy would be pursued in reference to those of our people who labor under political disabilities. AN illustrated Catalogue, containing full description of style, and testimonials of the most, eminent musicians, as to the superior excellence of our instruments?Trill be THE AUTOMATIC OEGAtf.. In presenting the Automatic Organ, we boldly announce the greatest triumph in ieu! sicnl i/wt raiments of the age. During the past half century, the French and Germans have manufactured reed instruments with double bellows, and two pedali for the feet to operate; but the want of the reversed or exhaustion bellows, (which is the.only bellows used In our instruments,) .made it impossible for them to produce tho mellow, rich and mellow tone for which our instruments are celebrated. Another objection to this method of blowin gwas, that both feet being occupied, no op-> portunity was offered for the management of the swell. Within the past two years, instruments constructed on this European plan of "double bellows" have been manufactured in tins country, and to counteract this difficulty (want of a swell) a lever has been projected from tho centre of the instrument, to act on the swell, and operated by the knee. The inconvenience and contortion necessary to effect this object, are disagreeable enough to a gentleman, but to a lady tho use of such an appendage is nearly impossible. Our Automatic device obviates this difficulty entirely, the simple act of blowing with more or less force giving the desired increase or decrease in the volume of the tone. We predict for this invention a brilliant future. MELODEON AND SCHOOL OHGAN For seventeen years the superior excellence of our Melodcoii3 has not been questioned, and for two years past the enormous demand has made it impossible for us to meet our orders promptly. With our increased facilities we feel warranted iir assuring our patrons that their orders will be promptly niet, and solicit a continuance of thoir patronags. GEO. A. riliKCE & CO. CAUTION TO PURCHASERS. All of our instruments have upon the name boards, in full, -GEO. A. TRINCiS * (;0."?
