Mew military Kill. According to the recent act passed by the Legislature, all otlices will be vacated, and new elections ordered by the Adjutant-tlenoral, forthwith. In accordance with the requirements of said bill an announcement is made in our columns of this issue, for candidates to lill the field olficcs of this regiment. n Alarm or Fire. Yesterday, about 12 o'clock, we were startled by the alarm of lire, which was caused by the burning of the roof of I >r. T. AY. Salmon n's residence, in Kirkwood?occasioned from sparks, which was soon extinguished. It was a very bad day for a lire to have got under way, and feel glad that no further injury was sustained. in l>ui'ltii<'M?. While the people of the South have been suffering slightly from the scarcity of burning fluid and the adamantine candles, mostly made in Porkdom, we are happy to inform our readers and the people of the Confederate States, that the great desideratum has been more than fully supplied, by a discovery made by our enterprising fellow-citizens of this town, Messrs. IIocott & Sutherland. We arc now writing under its brilliant light, and deem it superior to gas, fluid or camphcnc. The " Trebene Oil" has been exhibited in the city of Columbia to the entire satisfaction and delight of all who witnessed it. It possesses the great properties of cheapness and freedom from explosion, when used l>y careful hands. It will be seen by reference to the adverment, in another column, that the proprietors arc prepared to furnish it in quantities to suit purchasers, on application to them. It is another evidence of the indirect benefit of this Lincoln war. Had not the blockade been in existence, this enterprise would not have been thought of. We congratulate our friends in the successful accomplishment of so useful an enterprise, and hope it will reward their skill and benefit the country at large. | FOR TilE CONFEDERATE, | At a meeting of a newly organized military Company, held in Camden on Saturday the 7th inst., Mr. 1*. BY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL I TREIYIENDOIJ^ COM L VGRATIOV! ... HALF OF CHARLESTON /X AS/IFS! The A for/()'>/ of vcstcrdav inorninjr brinus ' / / C* %? us tlio sad intelligence of a tremendous conflagration then raging in the city, and which, at the hour of their going to press?6 o'clock in the morning?had laid in ashes almost half the city. The fire originated about 0 o'clock Wednesday night, in lvussell S: Co.'s Sash and Blind Factory, at the foot of 11 a/ell street, and extended over an area of more than fifty squares, up to G o'clock, since which time we have been unable to obtain any further particulars. Among the many valuable public buildings we see mentioned as having been consumed is the Circular Church, Institute llall, Charleston Theatre, St. Andrew's llall, the Cathedral, and many others. It has made a complete furrow clear through Iroin East Bay to King-street, taking portions of lla/.oll, Queen, Meeting, Market, Church, Arclnlale, Mazyek, East Bay, Ilayne, Cumberland, King, Clitford, Broad and Friend streets, besides several others, the names of which we have been unable to learn. 1*. In the Little Lock (Ark.) True Democrat of the 28th, we find the following important inteligcnce, which is the latest that could be received lierc from tlie Southwestern Missouri, and which seems to be perfectly reliable. We learn from Mr S. T?. Dennett, who reached tliis place vesterdav evening, bringing <1 is j>atclies lroin Maj. G. \V. Clarke to tiie Goveminent at Richmond, that a battle has been fought in Southwest Missouri, near the Kansas Fine, by Gen. Rains with the Federalists, in which Gen. Rains achieved a signal victory, lie routed the Federalists completely, killing and wounding about 200, capturing about '200 prisoners, t'ortv wagons loaded with provisions and aiuunition, and a large number of arms. Mr. Rennett also informs us, that S. II. Montgomery, long a resident of Fort Smith and brother to eapt A. Montgomery, who had charge of the Fort there when taken by the State, he was among the prisoners captured, lie was <|unrtcrmnster in the Federal armv. (Jen. Siegel, Mr. Rennet informs us, was in full retreat towards 1 ronton or Focahontas, with about 15,000 men, and Gen. Price was in hot pursuit, with everv confidence of being able to overtake and whip him. The other portion of the federal army had retreated towards Rolla. This is glorious news front Missouri, and we expect more of it when next we hear from the gallant Price. iwmrmrr mi.'.1'?. .'g-Tg^r.u*- j *rmm MARRMFdk Maruikd. on the .'5tl of I>ecenil?er, 18(51, at the resi donee of the bride's father, by the Itev.
