I Adams Express.?We have before inadvertantly omitted to mention that Mr. A. A- Rice, has taken charge of the Adams Express business in this Department, succeeding Mr. John K. Stimson, who has gone North. Mr. Rice for a long time was the Agent of Adams Exnfuoa 111 tho niinnrtmnnf r\f \Tr\v-fVi P?i?aV ^K/OO in iuv/ vi 11 viiu vaivi. na. We knew him there, and can testify to his great popularity at Newborn, as a most efficient and accommodating officer, who did credit to the company. He is well adapted, by ability ana experience, for the position he holds, in a military Department like this. Masonic.?The crowd of advertise. ments to-day renders it necessary, much to our regret, to defer our report of the celebration of St. John's Day, at Beaufort, last Friday, as we could not do justice to it in the brief space afforded. We shall give a full report next week. We will merely say now that it was in every way a success, and reflected much credit on those having it in charge. The procession was headed by a band, and numbered nearly one hundred persons. Thj supper at the Saxton House was prepared in fine style; and was attended by Gen. Saxton, Lt. Col. J. F. Hall, Capt. W. L. M. Burger, Capt. Parker, and many oiher distinguished Masons. Palmktto IIskald Stoke.?Since Tue Palmetto Herald was started the busi ness of editing and publishing it, and superintending the job printing office connected with it, together with the erection of the buildings of the establishment, have so occupied our time that we have been unable to attend to the finishing of that portion of the lower story, fronting on Merchants' Row, reserved for a stationery, periodical and lancy goods store. Carpenters are scarce, and such as could be obtained have been employed on work necessary to our newspaper department. We are now having the store completed, and it wilt be opened in a few weeks, with a Iarce stock of goods, and Thk Palmetto Herald on the counter, when we shall no longer have to apologize to our patrons for obliging them to find our establishment through a back-yard. Mr. Otis T. Simonds and Mr. Orlando Leach, two enterprising gentlemen, with the best business qualities, formerly of4the Custom House, will be associated with us in the management of the store, and we believe our facilities for making it just what is needed to beot the very best.
