JMlzaOOtll Cady Stanton bas started on a new hobby ia the -roman's rfghta movement. She repudiates the hal f-way bio om er cos tu m e, and goes in for an entire similarity in the dress of tho soxes. She says: "The true idea ia for the soxes to dress as nearly alike as possible. We bare seen several ladies dressed precisely like gentlemen, who appeared for more elegant and graceful than any real man we over saw. A young lady in Fifth Avenue, dressed in male costume for years, traveling all over Europe and this country. She says it would have been impossible to bare seen and known as much of life in woman's attire, and to have felt the in? dependence and security she did, bad ber sex been proclaimed before all Israel and the sun. There are many good reasons for adopting male costume. First, it is the most convenient dress that can be invented; second, in it wo? man should seodre equal wages with man for the same work; third, a concealment of sax could protect our young girls from tboae tembl? outrages from brutal men reported in all our daily papers. " FREE TRADE.-We are not quite cer? tain that in the "new order of things" the South is going to be tbe especial champion Of free trade, but now that the question has been mooted whether free trade is an article of the Democratic creed, the New York World prints a his? torical statement showing what is the record of the party on the subject: Democratic, 1837 to ?842, average tariff, 39 per cent. A SMART CHILD.-A good story comet from Rome. In preparation for thc (Ecumenical Council, the Pope ordered from hi? architect certain embellish' menta, the plan of which was brough! for bis. inspection by that gentleman'! little boy. Charmed by the plan, tb< Popo opened a drawer fall of gold, anc said to the child, "Take a handful o! coin as a reward for the beauty of youl father's work." "Holy Father," repli?e the ohild, "take it out for me; your bane is bigger than mino." Pius IX. coule not belp smiling, and obeyed the child. To the People of South Carolina ? The above Company waa organized in 1SGG, in oonBeqaenoe of the wholesale forfeiture of Southern policies by Northern companies. The unparalleled success of the enterpriso has forced several of these companies to restore their Southern policies, from the fact that they could not operate in our midat without thc ap? pearance of honesty. Wo keep all our money at homo to build up our impoverished country-ovary dollar of premium being safely invested in tho St ato from which it is derived. Tho institution is purely Southern, and honco should appeal with groat forco to tho patriotism and sympa thy of every Southern hoart. 'Tis not our purpose to mako war on other companies, bat to exhibit the special advan? tages offered by thia purely Southern Compa? ny-founded on patriotism and eolid wealth. Ita ratio of assets to liabilities-tho true test of a company's strength, is second to none on I this continent-being nearly SOO to 100. Whonover and wherever we have presented the claims of this Company, it has not only enlisted tho sympathies of our people, but baa alao secured their hoarty co-operation. We have secured 500 policies in Soxth Carolina since the 10th of February. Wo number among our Directors Gen. Wado Hampton and Col. Wm.
