A MtxE MAKE WITH A COLT. -The Fort Wayne (Indiana) Gazette, of the 29tb ultimo, gives the following re? markable story, for the correctness of which it vouches: "It may be o? some interest to stock growers to know that Mr. Robert Bennett, of this city, bas a nude with a young colt, the latter about four weeks old. The fact is quite remarkable, and worth remem? bering. There is no mistake about the matter-the mule is the mother of the colt. "Mr. Conklin, the photo? grapher, brought ns a photograph of the animal this morning-a remark- : ably good picture-the cob imbibing a breakfast, and the mother tied to a post with a baiter. The picture may be seen at our office. It ought to bo secured by the Agrieidtural Society." The lady who "took everybody's eyes," must have bad lots of them. The safe you made for me some, time ago was in the office of tito Museum, on tlie second door, back part of the building, and in the hottest of the fire. After twenty-four hours of trial, it was found among the debris, and oti opening it this day has yielded up its coutents in very good order-books, papers, policies insurance, bank bills, al! in condition for Immediate use, and a noble commentary on tho trustworthiness of Herring's Fire Prooi Safe. The termination of a sanguinary contest, which for tho past four years has presented an impassable hamer to ail social or com? mercial intercourse between the two great scctious of cur country, having at length happily cleared away all obstacles to a re? cova! of those '.elations which formerly bound us together in a fraternal union, I take tho earliest opportunity afforded me by this auspicious event, to greet my South? ern friends, and to solicit from them a re? newal of that extensive business connection vhieh for a quarter of a ce ntury has been uninterrupted, save by the great public calamity to whieh I have adverted. It is scarcely necessary, on the threshold of a business re-union, I should repeat the warning so often given to my friends-to beware of all those spurious and deleteri? ous compounds which, under thc specious and false titles of Imported Wines, Bran? dies, Holland Gin, Liquors, ic, have boen equally destructivo to the health of our citizens as prejudicial to thc interests ol the legitimate importer. Many years of my past hie have been expended in au open and candid attempt to expose those wholesale frauds; no time nor expense has been spared to accomplish this salutary purpose, and to place bet?re my friends and the public generally, at tho lowest possible market price, and in such quantities as might suit their convenience, a truly genuine imported article. Twenty-five years' business transactions with the largest and most respectable ex? porting houses in France and Great Britain have afforded me unsurpassed facilit.es foi supplying our homo market with Wines, Li.?uer-, and Liqueres of thc best and most approved brands in Europe,, in addition to my own chstiliery in Holland for the manu? facture of tho '"Sckiedam Schnapps."' Thc latter, so long tested and approved by the medical faculties of the United stat?.-'. West Indies and Si nth America as wi invaluable Therapeutic, a wholesome, pleasant and perfi etly safe beverage in ail climates and during ah seasons, quickly excited the cupidity of the home manufac? turers and vender- of a spurious article under the same name. I trust that I have, after much toil and expense, surrounded all my importations with safeguards and directions which, with ordinary circumspection, will insure their delivery, as I receive them from Eui ope, to all my customers. I would, however, recommend, in all eases where it is possible, that orders be I sent direct to my Depot, 22 Beaver street, j New York, or tbat purchases be made ol ; ?IV accredited agents. Tn addition to a large ?tock of Wire?. ; Brandies, ?fcc, in wood, I have a consider : abb supply of old tried foreign Wines, era ! bracing vintages of many past years, bot? tled up before the commencement of thc I war, which I can especially recommend to ! all connoisseurs of these rare luxuries. In conclusion, I would specially call rlic ; attention sf mv Southern customer-, to the advantage to be derived by transmitting their orders without lo-3 of "time, or culling personally at the Depot, in order to insure thc fulfillment of their favors from the pre? sent large and w< ll selected assortment.
