Tbe Paul-Mario Coneert Thu Eve? ning. Although Charleston le not regarded as a particularly remunerative field lor ''shows'? generally, whenever an entertainment of ex? ceptional excellence 1B presented, it ls sure to be well attended. The Pattl-Mario concert, to take place to-night, ls already an assureU success. Every box and nearly all the choicest seats are already engaged, for everybody bas heard of the great tenor, of whom Owen Meredith tells us: -Marlo can soothe with a tenor note The sonia In Purgatory. And we all remember the exquisite vocali? zation of Carlotta Patti and the fresh and clear notes of M?as Cary, who, when she last ap? peared at the Academy, fairly divided the plaudits of the audience with Nilsson herself. So that, although we know little of tho rest of the oompany, the concert Is going to be the occasion o? a crowded and brilliant gathering of the beauty, taste and cultivation of Charleston, the like of whloh ls not often seen. The Oates Company. The lively and versatile Mn. Oates, who In past seasons bas been so great a favorite here, ls coming with a reorganized and well trained company. Her agent, Mr. Pennoyer, ls In town, and Informs us that she expects to appear at the Academy on Monday, the 13ih Inst. JaaauseheBE. And then a week of the great tragedienne, Janauscbek. That she comes under the aus pleas ot Manager John T. Ford ls a guarantee that she will be worthily supported. Jefferson-"Rip Van Winkle." ' _ dec30 PROTECT Y OUR HEALTH_Cola and moisture combined have a torporizing effect upon the bodily organs, and the digestive and secretive processes are apt to be more tardily perform? ed in winter than in the Tall. The same ls true, also, of the excretory functions. The bowels are often sluggish, and the pores of the skin throw off bot little waste matter at. this season. The system, therefore, requires opening up a little, and alao purifying and regulating, and the safest, surest and most palatable tonio and alterative that can be used for these purposes ls Hostelter's Stomach Bitters. Persons who wish to eBoape the rheumatic twinges, the dyspeptic agonies, the painful disturbances ol the bowels, the bilious attacks and the nervous visitations, so common at this time of the year, will do well to relnlorce their systems with this re? nowned vegetable and stomachic lnvlgorant. It improves the appetite, strengthens the j stomach, cheers the spirits and renovates the whole physique. Janl-wfmSnao COMMERCIAL NEWS. Eaports. SBip PRO r it RT r -After about a dozen years of great depression to the shipping Interest of the uountry, we are able to make review of one of uninterrupted prosperity and substantial im? provement. Whe? ther lt be attributable to a great Increase in the voiuiLe of trade or other causes it is a noticeable fact that there bas existed a scarcity of tonnage during the past year at almost all the leading markets of ihe wond, and consequently freight rates have steadily enhanced in all directions, until they have reached a good remunerative point, with tarong indications of continuance the present year. In consequence, values of ship property are considerably enhanced, while the cost of construction bas not Increased; with these facts operating lu our favor, and the evident de? cadence of u\>n Bhlpbulldlug in Great Britain, we bavemojt sat sfaotury assurance of an early re? trieval of our lobt supremacy of the can y lug trade of the wond.
