What ls Said on the Streets About Hob son's Choler. Tbe candidates for office whose names are not found on the Hobson's Choice ticket, or any other ticket, are virtuously indignant that THE NEWS should have proposed a plan of action the result of which may be that they will hjWVleft out In the cold" on election day. Tuffen J their friends are busily at work suggesting reasons why THE NEWS should have dared to propose a ticket whose only merit is that lt is the best the people can get, and can be elected. Among these reasons they advance the following: That THE NEWS was paid to put out the ticket; that it was a bargain made weeks ago; that the ticket grew out of "a pecuniary arrangement" with Sheriff Mackey. These are fair specimens ef the style of talk in which the would-be office? holders Indulge. On the other band the cool, sober-thinking citizens are fast coming to the conclusion that lt is wiser to elect a moderately good set of men than to stay-at-home, or to cast their votes for very estimable gentlemen who have not the remotest prospect of winning. This feeling grows stronger every day, and upon thatTHENEWdrelleB. The Hobson's Choice ls kept before the Con? servative public. Here it ls again: THE TICKET. For Sheriff. E. W. M. MACKEY.
