NEW YORK, Sept em b r 20 The Financial Chronicle says : There has been a lostinuatlon In the downward movement of prices he past week, spot cotton having declined voy lecldedly, and futures being off materially from last week's quotations, low middling on the spot seing quot ea to-night at 18X. against 20X last Fri? lay, and ratures to night 18X to 20 6-ioc for Sep? tember to April, against 19 616 to 20XC a week igo. The cause of thia depression and lower rates ls mainly to be found In the same rac ts no? ticed In our last, aggravated, however, this week jy the very close money market which has pre? vailed here, and the numer?os failures lu other lepartmenta or trsde. whlcn have served to dis? turb conAdence in all business circles. Receipt* 31 the new crop at onr ports have continued very lawe, and Liverpool has declined almost dally; while In the booth there has been a great scarcity if current funds, so tbat the Southern markets nave given way even more than onr own-tn fact nave helped to drag oars down by rendering lt J practicable to lay cotton down here considerably under onr nominal quotations. For the moment, therefore, the prospects of the crop have little in? fluence, the market laboring as lt has ander the weight or large present supplies pressed for sale. At the dote to-day prices were steady, after a de cline of Xe since yesterday, middling uplands being quoted at IBO 01 ixe off during the week. Toe prices of futures last reported were (baals low middling) 18X0 for September, is 8i6c ror oct? 1 ber, 18X0 for November, 18 6-iso ror December. 18Xc for January, 19Xc for February, and lBXo for March. The total .tales of tbis description for the week are 111,160 bi iee. Foi immediate delive? ry the total saiesfoot tip this wee? oui bales, in? cluding 8184 for exports 6586 ror consumption, 171 for sp?culation, and 2C0 in transit. Mancheite r Co ton Goods Market. MANCHESTER, September7. Tho course of this market has been inled all the week by the large bog ness at Liverpool. Though there la a general scepticism on the subject or tbe alleged blight to the cotton crop, the reports appearing to be at all eventa exaggerations, the enhanced price of cot on has obliged prodncem to advance their quotations In this market, and the re-mit bas been a i arther limitation or buying. The amount of buslneus done has, therefore, been bnt moderate, taking the market as a whole, and not sufficient to keep pace with the prodaction. Nevertheless, stocks are still sufficiently large to prevent any general embarrasment. A fair amount cf business l as been effected ia yarns salted to the Continental markets, and prices are nominally advanced by XaXd per lb since the beginning of the week. Home trade yarns h ave similarly advanced, but during the last day o ? two it bas been evident that sales to any appreciable amount at the cor rent rates were out of the question. In the cloth market the inquiry has been extremely languid. Prices have remained Atm at Tuesday's quota. Mons in shirtings, rladapoilams, jaconets and mulla. Printing cloths have been a little more active and ti ard en inc lu value. Some beal ness bas been done ror i be Levant. Domestics re? main unchanged. Tte reports from the Eastern markets have been discouraging all tbrough the week, and have kept lome or the principal buyers practically oar. of the market. . ? j Engllih ldetal Market. SHEFFIELD, September 7. Though lt Ss not y et much felt, a change has un? doubtedly occurred la the condition of trade la this town and district;. There is nothing like the extreme pressure whldh was experienced a month or two slace, and In nome brandies there ls an unmistakable railing off m activity. At present, however, orders are r omero ns enough, and there ls every prospect of cur having a good autnmn trade. The heavy brunches are fairly active, and the demand ror all dtscriptlons of railway mate? rial commues brisk. A good deal ls dolog In liles and lu tools general!/, but in moBt or the other light branches theron an evident falling off In the demand. The price or coal ls still being increased, but tbere ls an easier state of things in the iron market. Owing te th 3 nigh price or loreign irons, best English brands command fail rates, bnt there ls a continued s lackening or the demand ror j secondary qualities, and a general decline In pri? ces. That the prices of iron shonld be easier in presence of the ver r high and still advancing rates of coal ia an Indication of a rather decided falling off in the demand. NEWPORT, MONMOUTH SH nts, September 7. Tho Ironworkers have commenced upon a farth? er rise or io per cent this week, and mills and furnaces have been kept going with regularity. Tbere are heavy American engagements still on the books, and some of the makers have their | books foll over christmas. The exports dating the week have reached 4000 tons, the principal j clearances being to the United States. Home j business ls quiet, owing to the Inability or manu? facturers to accept fresh orders. In the tin-plate trade there ls a large amount of activity, bat the high prices of Iron sud fnel have materially re? duced profit. The a ilpments of coal daring the month of August vere as annexed : Exports, foreign, 22,682 (.ons; coastwise 84,0.o tons. CARDIFF, september 7. In the coal trade prices are quite equal to those of last week. Coasting freights are remarkably good Shipments ol rails have been brisk, the | United States taking the largest proportion. The j week's foreign exports are: Coal 44,0.0 tons; coke 860 tons; patent fuel 1200 tons; rails 730O tons ; bars 220 tons ; t beet 190 tons. Imports have eome forward In such larger quantities than usn al, piiwood and Iron ore particularly. Interior 'Cotton Markets. COLUMBUS, September 21/ Harket dall and unsettled.
