DAILY NEWS. CHARLESTOIS'. _? WEDNESDAY MORNING. OCTOBER 18. 1SG5. It is now understood that General H ami-ion has publicly declined being a candidato for Governor. This is only iu confirmation of what ho had said before; and it was expected, from his open and manly character, that he would do so In an authori tative shape. It niay bo proper now to state, what is well known by Colonel Oitn's friends, that ho acknowl edges General Hami-tos'i* hold upon tho favor of our people, and that bo would not have allowed himself to be put in nomination except upon tho understanding that the Gcuoral would not consent to run. It may be added, too, upon undoubted authority, that Colonel Oun's dispositions towards the low eountry aro most kiutUy and generous". Ho fools that this section, under existing circumstancoB, baa peculiarly strong claiinB upon tho aid of tho Legislature and the Governor; and, so far as he is ooncerncd, no endeavors shall bo wanting to satifl? fy tho jtist expectations of tho peoplo of the Par ishes. To UBO his own words, "His impulsca aro aa warm and generous tot tho soaboard as for the mountains." Colonol On_ will uow-be tho only candidato in the field. It is to bo hoped that our people, iu this first popular election for Governor, wUl give a hearty and genoral vote for the candidate from tho uppor country, and so inaugurate a cordial and thorough union between tho two sections of tho State. To promote and strengthen this union is tho offico of true statesmanship. -? ? Editora Charleston Daily Neioa: I wbb in Colum bia last Friday, and hoard casually from some of Gen. We abe gratified to learn that the steamship Oranada arrived safely at her wharf hi New York on Saturday morning at half-past 9 o'clock, making an excellent run. A VOTEJ?. October 18 1 To tin- Working Men and Mechanics ol Charleston. In accepting your nomination as a Caudidato for tho Senate of South Carolina, let me, In thin public manner, return you my sincere thanks for the high and unexpect ed compliment you have paid me as a working man and mechanic. At this crisis of our country's affairs, I fully appreciate the Importance of any efforts to improve and ?l?vate this, true clement of society, which ia so essential to the prosperity of every country. And while I deeply feel my want of ability to do much for your immediate advancement, I assure you that a disposition to accom plish at least ono step for your Improvement, and by it a lasting benefit to our community, ia tho only influence which could induce mo, at this juncture, If elected, to leave private Interests of vital importance to my wolfare. Among the new names offorod for the very Important ?lection of this day, many havo boon pleaBcd with that of Thomas P. Ryan. The son of a good, worthy citizen, Mr, Thomas P^ Byan, after receiving a full education, had been pro pared for law practico, and had ontored that calling. When tho duties of war presonted that ordeal which la almost a discerner of spirits, and uovor faila in showing the truo man and good cltlzon, Thomas P.
