Tho ar rangements aro remarkably good, and evorythbig seems to bo made as comfortable as possible for those who arc to bo ?nuutcs, while the plan for giving outside work to ladies appears to he well systematized. With the co-op eration of the Ladies' Bureau, sowing work has already been furnished to, at least, one hundred applicants, and. hope m are entertained that, during tho coming week, much urrator progress will bo made, and many more la dios supplied. To tho active exertions of tho Ladies' Charitable Cloth ing Asaooiation, of which Miss //ammond i<* President, and the unceasing endeavors of the individual members oft?is kind-hearted Society, tho success of this institution may in a measure be attributed?thoy leaving nothing undone that could be beneficial In promoting the object of this benevolont onterpriB?; and to Captain G. J. Lin q?ist also, who modestly and quietly has ?lone a great deal of this work of charity, tho beneficiaries of the In stitution must be lastingly indebted. It must bo impressed upon the minds of all, that this bouse has been established for destitute ladies, and none other ?for those respectable wonieu who have been thrown into poverty by the Iobs of relatives who sup ported them, or other circumstances during the late war, and not for those who, by ill behavior, have lost all pre tensions to character or decency. Before ono can be ad mitted as an inmate, or draw work from the estabUsh ment, she must produce a certificate from two resident citizens of respectability, that she Is a woman of reputa tion and standing, as well as that she is destitute, and then all assistance will be given.
