Columbia, April 1: The Wells joint resolution, piissed at the last session of the general assembly over the governor's veto extending the time for the payment of taxes, in that section whic h provides that electors can vote on tax receipts after January I, will have to bo passed on bv the courts to make it binding, according to an opinion of John M. Daniel, assistant attorney general, to Cornelius Otts, a lawyer of Spartanburg. Mr. Daniel held that the constitutional provision, bolstered by many decisions of the state supreme court, that a man must have his tax receipts for taxes paid before January 1, for taxes of the previous year, before he can vote in a general election held within six months subsequent to the first of the year, is binding until vitiated bi' a decree of the courts, regardless of the proviso in tho Wells resolution. The assistant attorney general said that it is not in the province of his office to pass on the constitutionality of an act of the general assembly; that was the function of the courts. Approved Ways of Getting Rid of Ants.?In answer to an American physician practising in Mexico, the Journal of the American Medical Association gives the following advice as to methods of getting rid of ants: 1. Drop quicklime on the mouth of the nest and wdsh it in with boiling water. 2. Pour in boiling water in which camphor or tobacco has been steeped. 3. A spray of benzine from an atomizer is sudden death to most insects. It must, however, be carefully handled because of the possibility of explosion.
