SCHOOL AS DANCE HALL. Correspondent Makes Strenuous Protest Against Use for the Purpose. Editor Yorkville Enquirer: Will you kindly allow me space in your paper to maku u few brief statements and comments on an affair that was pulled off in our community last week that I consider is a shame and a blot on the good name and reputation of this community. On last Friday nig\il what was supposed to be a Valentine party was given at the Ogden school house for the chilldren of the-school. Tin? children were all there, full of glee and expectancy. Everything moved along nicely and joyfully for the children until the "party" was well under way and about half of the valentines had been given out. Then this feature of the oc6asion was brought to an abrupt close.- The room was cleared lor action. The children were nushed aside, or outside if they could not find a place well out of ; the way in some corner, and an eld- j time dance was staged, the teachers of j the school taking an active part in the ! festivities, which lasted until a late J hour of the night or the early hours of th ? morning. ' Just who is responsible for this disgraceful affair, I am unable ;o say positively. I do know of my own knowledge that a member of the board of c trustees of the school was approached during the qfternoon with'the view of getting his permission to have a dance in the school house that night and he flatly refused the request ;und warned the young people npp to attempt anything of the kind. I understand that later in the afternoon some of the frolickers got permission from a patron of the school to have the dance. As a citizen of the community, a patron of the school, and for the sake of the good name of th'c community, 1 am opposed to using our school house for a dancing hall. I feel quite sure that our county superintendent of education does not approve of any such thing either, and I trust that proper steps will be taken to prevent a repetition of it. fl W. F. Steele.
