? Six hoboes -were taken off of % south-hound Southern freight trains at CSastonia Friday night by police officers and faced Judge Jones in municipal court Saturday morning. Two of them were sent on thejr way rejoicing. They stated that they were headed for Now Orleans where they hoped to get work. Four are being held in the city jail pending further consideration of their eases. "We are getting more hoboes now than at any time in the past several years." said Chief of Police Orr Saturday. "Hardly a night passes that we do not pick up from one to half a dozen. Occasionally we get a professional hobo or " "?!??;?nl llllt- Oi! > IMtlft" tltnv ft I'ft simply follows in tough luck. They drift this way from the big cities where thousands are idle for lack of opportunity to work. One of the fellows we got last night, for instance, was an ex-clerk in ;v New York hotel. He said the hot'elsMiad been cutting off employes right \along and that there was no other work to lie had. He was a neat, intelligent looking man?nothing vicious looking about him at all. He said he hoped* to get some work in Xcw Orleans. m Until present conditions undergo a considerable change," said the chief, ' we will continue to have lots of hoboes. Many of them are nothing more than homeless wanderers, yet we keep out a close eye for criminals, not a few of whom head south every winter. Every householder should see that his home is securely locked each night." added the chief, "for some of these hoboes drop off along or travel through the cojintry and they are going to steal certainly what food and clothing: they need. Our people should take care to protect themselves against this class." > - Special IJofircs. y Card of Thanks.
