Norfolk, Va. Pilot and Landmark of November 9, will be of interest here, Engineer Hunter having formerly been an engineer on the C. & N.-W.: Engineer J. PL Hunter of Brambleton. had his leg broken and traffic was tied up for about five hours on the Norfolk-Southern railway as the result of a collision of a freight and passenger train near Yeopim Monday night. A freight of sixty empty cars ^ was delayed by a heavy fog Monday night, stopping several hundred yards south of Yeopim. The passenger crashed into the rear of the train at 11."*0 o'clock demolishing the rear cars and damaging others. Engineer Hunter jumped as he saw the collision was inevitable and sustained a fractured leg on striking the ground. The damage to the trains was small and no one else than the engineer was injured. V>/mi M r?-v orii A# tVAfk VI' O U nfTpS. sary before the track was cleared, the result being a tie-up of traffic for that length of time and a late schedule for passenger trains for some time. Mrs. J. L. Moore Dead. After an illness of about a year. Mrs. J. Leonidas Moore died at her home ^ in Rock Hill at about 8 o'clock Friday evening. Paralysis caused her death. Mrs. Moore was in the 75th year of her age, having been born in Fairfield county. December 31, 1840. As a girl she attended the old Yorkville Female academy, graduating from that institution in June of 1857. On February 3, 1863, she married her husband, the late J. Leonidas Moore and with him went to live in the Bethesda section where they resided many years before going to Rock Hill. Mrs. Moore is survived by six children as follows: Miss Mary Davis Moore. J. M. Moore, S. George Moore, Rock Hill; Mrs. R. W. Mitchell. Greenville, Tenn.; Mrs. H. W. White. Charleston. A stepson. Mr. S. M. Miller of Chester, and two sisters. Mesdames N. M. Simonton of Florida, and Fannie Brice of Rock Hill also survive. The interment was in Bethesda cemetery on Sunday, the funeral being attended by a host of friends and acquaintances of the deceased. The Case of the Dacia.?The steamship Dacia has come to the end of an eventful career at the torpedo of a German submarine. A German vessel, interned in the United States, pur. chased by Americans, seized, with her ^ cargo, by French cruisers, condemned ^ as a prize and sold by the French % government, renamed the Yser, the steamship ran afoul of a German undersea boat in the Mediterranean and the subsequent proceedings will interest her no more. The Injustice of her seizure and the claim of her American owners for compensation, which are supported by the United States government, remain, however, and it is to be supposed they will be pressed to the establishment of the very important and far reaching principle involved in the controversy precipitated V... otiln'o a rroot and COndamna tlon. This Is no less than the integrity of American registry of merchant vessels. If a ship flying the flag of the United States, under the authority of the officials of this government, is questionable as to her nationality, she should be in the civil courts of this country, not before the prize courts of belligerent nations. The Dacia has vanished, but her status remains an issue of great moment in the controversy over the right of neutrals to use the high seas during war.?Charleston Evening Post. ^ ? Governor Manning in an interview, has expressed himself as opposed to the increase in salaries proposed by John J. McMahan. * AT THE CHURCHES FIRST PRESBYTERIAN Prayer meeting Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock. FIRST BAPTIST mAot l*\rr WoHtlP PVPninC ? Id IllWfcllie M vwxvwviM,, ? . w at 7.30 o'clock. A: R. SHERER & QUINN Look Before You Leap DURING the past six or eight years I have frequently heard the statement made that people had learned a great deal more about Life Insurance than they used to know, and that thf? Individual who had made up his mind to insure his life was pretty apt to Look Before He Leaped. My observation is that "some" people have learned that all legal reserve or so-called "old line" companies, ARE NOT "About the same." They have learned that all of them DO NOT treat all of their members in the same way, and that all have not records extending over a long series of years of a Square Deal to each policy holder, whether he knew what was his dues under his contract or not?such a record, for instance, as the Mutual Benefit HAS. It is a fact that the average buyer of Life Insurance buys from an Agent who "goes after him," regardless of what company the Agent represents, or the nature of the contract he sells. Comparatively few seem to understand . that while there is little difference in the net cost of insurance in any of the old, established, legal reserve companies, there is a vast difference in the Contracts. In view of the fact that the individual who buys the insurance "Pays the freight," it would seem to be only common, business sense for him to "Look Before He Leaps," even though his own brother was the Agent who first caused him to become interested in life insurance. The Mutual Benefit is recognized all over the United States as being In a Class By Itself?the One that has Always Done the Most for Its Members, and I shall be pleased to show YOU if YOU care to be shown.
