LETTER FROM BLAIRSVILLE Crop Outlook Good?Activities of the ^ Loggers?Carp and Catfish in Turkey Creek?Death of Mrs. Saye Love. CorrnpcDdane* The Tortrrllle Enqulrw Blairsville. May 24.?The log: men 0 working: in this section who have I been mentioned in The Enquirer several times, still have plenty of materi- ? al to keep them busy for a month or more. They are securing: a great deal of good and valuable timber on the T lands of John Dowdle, the Messrs. . Blair, J. J. McSwain and others. The ? people of this section have long known that there was a quantity of valuable , ' timber here, but not having the necessary facilities with which to get it out of the bottom lands, little attention had been paid it until the coming of the logging crews. Mrs. saye i^ove or ureal raws, aiea . at the home of her father-in-law, Mr. T * W. T. Liove, in this section last Sat- j. urday. Mrs. Love had been a sufferer j with consumption for some time and rp her death was not unexpected. She was a daughter of Mr. Ervin Blair of this community, and in addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband and a two-year-old child, also a ? number of brothers and sisters. She was a member of Sharon A. Ft P. church and had many friends and ac- ? p. quaintances in this community. After funeral services conducted at the home. Mrs. Love's body was interred in Bullock's Creek cemetery Sunday B morning. The cotton and corn crop prospects at this time are very encouraging. Practically every farmer in the com- _ f munity has a good stand and since the heavy rains of late, a good stand of _ grass has sprung up along with the I cotton and corn. Farmers in this sec- J tlon will be busily engaged chopping out the grass for the next few weeks. The outlook is also good for a big fruit crop in this section and it is thought that there will at least be a large quantity of peaches. ~ A number of fishing parties have ? been seen on Turkey Creek of late f and from all reports, the fishermen * have been having good luck. Most of "" the fishermen use dip nets and large v numbers of carp and cat fish have *" been taken. Mr. Luther Blair of the Atlanta > Medical college, has returned to his home in this section for the summer. Messrs. R. M. Mitchell, Ray Bankhead and Tom and Ernest Good who have been attending the Boiling 3 Springs High school have returned to their respective homes in this commu- ? nlty. ? Miss Eva Mitchell who recently K} graduated from Llnwood college, has returned to her home here. ? . BLAIRSVILLE SCHOOL j Session of Hard, Earnest Work Cloaed ? With interesting Exercises. Oorretpondenee The Torkrllle Enquirer Blairsville, May 24.?In spite of the heavy rains of Friday and Friday night, the Blairsville school closing k entertainment was carried out as pre- w viously announced, and a fairly good 1 sized audience enjoyed the interesting ' and varied programme. The following programme, with the names of the boys and girls taking part, was well ? presented and showed the character , of the instruction the students have had during the past school year: Song?By school. m Recitation?Maud Sherer. ?r Dialogue?Iva Sherer, Flossie Burgess, Sarah Russell, Joe Plexlco. ^ Recitation?Flossie Burgess. Gossip Pantomime?Iva and Mary Sherer, Flossie Burgess, Blanche Pratt ? Irene Good, Lizzie Jane Stevenson. _ Recitation?Margaret Maloney. Song, "Springtime"?By seventeen I students. The programme was interspersed with excellent music rendered "by the Blairsville string band. The last number of the entertainment was a she rt play, "Kentucky Belle," presented by 3C a number of the larger boys and girls. Blairsville school has had a very sue- ? cessful year?sixty or more students ' being enrolled. The school has been ,, in session for the past six and oneI half months and the attendance has . been excellent until the last two weeks when a number of the larger boys be- 2gan to drop out, their services being required at home. The school has been in charge of ^ Mrs. S. A. Mitchell, assisted by Mrs. ^ J. N. Russell and under the instruction of these two teachers of wide ex- c< perience, good progress has been made in every grade, the patrons of the school being highly pleased with the work of the teachers. Blairsville has a good school building, well equipped with modern conveniences and the school course extends through eight grades. ? Both teachers and patrons are agreed ? that this has been a most successful school year and it is the hope for all those iiiterested that the school next "1 year will greatly outstrip the past ses- 1 sion in point of number, average at- I tendance and school work.
