SHARON PERSONALS Corrcipoadenc* The Torkvlll* Enquirer ~ Sharon, S. C., Feb. 18. 1913.?Our { town is growing: and business is very Ci good. The farmers are hauling their R fertilizer now and the streets and lots ^ are full of wagons from all parts of the surrounding country. Sharon has the patronage of quite a large territory w on the south and west of town and does a greater amount of business than any other town of its size in the county. All lines of business are thriving, q The school is doing good work this g( year under the supervision of Supt. W. ai Y. Boyd and his assistants. Mrs. Boyd _ has a good music class and reports her part of the work as quite satisfactory. The high school has organized a literary society and they are getting up a 10 play now to be given for the benefit of r,j the School Improvement association. The Ladies' Aid society of Woodlawn church served oysters, ham, eggs, etc.. Friday evening and Saturday and real- c0 ized quite a good deal for covering vi their church. The men very kindly se gave them the expenses of their sup- th per, so what they sold was clear. They b renort almost enoueh to cover the J church with what had been already ot subscribed. Jc Mr. J. Li Tillman Wants Railroad Legislation. ge ?Senator Tillman said last Saturday ^ to the News and Courier's correspon- lv; dent: at "I am watching the legislature of South Carolina and hoping and pray- ?n ing that it will pass some reasonable J1? railroad bill. It ought to pass a bill re- : quiring every railroad selling mileage ra books to sell one good for any number er of persons to go anywhere on the sys- ev tern, Just as they do all over the north, east of the arid prairies. Jn. "The requirement that holders of ^ mileage books shall exchange mileage for tickets is a nuisance and an abom- rel (nation, and the requirement that a man shall buy a separate book for each a" member of his family is a robbery that i^ ought noth to be permitted. ** "I don't see why the railroads in South Carolina can't treat us like white jn people as they do in the north, instead tu of like cattle. Only 'cussing' will do the ar subject Justice. These nuisances ought to be abated, and the legislature can do . It." 8t: m _ ^ t if ? i^onaon, reoruary i<: luraisn sot- ?? dlers early today attempted to assassinate and succeeded in badly wounding Enver Bey, the Young Turkish _ leader. A news agency dispatch by wireless from Constantinople says that Enver was stabbed severely several times, but gives no further details. En- Qt ver last week made a disastrous effort in to pierce the flanks of the Bulgarian tu army on the shores of the Sea of Marmora with a forlorn hope of Ottoman A] troops who were beaten back with ter- Jt rible losses. He was one of the leaders Oi in the recent revolt of the Young Turks .. which led to a renewal of the war between the Turks and the Balkan states. Several threats against his life had 1 been made among the disaffected sol- X diery who were aroused by the assas- E: sination of Nazim Pasha their beloved co commander-in-chief. Enver was a h? prominent military leader in the war th in Tripoli and was called by European to experts "the best soldier in the Turkish 14 army." _ T AT THE CHURCHES. E The Corn Clubs in Having spent several days at the b Corn show and had time to study the b> various exhibits, I have no hesitation in saying that it surpassed anything of ai the kind ever held in the south. a: Columbia is the smallest city that S( has even attempted an undertaking of such large proportions, and notwith- ti standing her success with it there is no likelihood that any other city of her _ size will ever succeed in securing the ? exposition. It is distinctly a large city ' show. ? It's coming to South Carolina this _ year was made possible only by reason I of Jerry Moore's phenomenal yield of * corn. Jerry's success was due to the corn J club work of the government combined with his own good sense and energy. In order to retain the prestige we have?through him and others?gained T as a corn-growing state, it will be necessary for our boys to go into the work this summer with redoubled energy. Alabama is now pressing us close for first place and a number of other . states are waking up. * We believe as good results can be ? obtained in York as in any other coun ly. we nave me son, me cuniaie anu T the boys.
