? New York, May 15: During the past two years of his life, the late Colonel Astor devoted much time to his son, Killlan Vincent Astor. now head of the household. It Is said by close friends of Colonel Astor that he afterwards remarked that he was trying to explain to his son some of the projects which he had mapped out for the future. While details are of course confidentially retained by his son, it is generally known by those who were intimate with the colonel, that a numI ber of these projects had to ao with the disposition of large sums for the advancement of science, art and other mat ters. One of the possessions for wmcn future disposition is said to. have been v planned is the contents of the Astor picture gallery which occupies one end of the great Fifth avenue house. It is said that this collection may later on become the property of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another matter of which Colonel Astor frequently spoke to his friends was the endowing of a technical school for boys where those of mechanical turn of mind might obtain scientific education. It is understood that his son will carry out the ideas of his father. ? Commenting to a reporter for the Spartanburg Journal the other day ?,? refusal of Comptroller Gen eral A. W. Jones to honor the expense account of C. W. Creighton, of Greenwood, the governor's special detective, on the ground that the account was not itemized. Mr. Blease said that Comptroller General Jones had previously paid the expense account of Creighton without being Itemized and he was inconsistent In holding It up now. "They are always nagging at me," said the governor, with a wearied air. "Everything I do they nag at me. Sometimes it is the attorney general and sometimes it is another official. I can't even make an appointment without being nagged. If I appoint a magistrate the appointment Is disputed and! the case taken Into court. And If l| appont a supervisor of registration It is the same thing. Talk about anarchists! It Is I who am enforcing the law, and they who are try_ ing to evade the law." AT THE CHURCHES. BAPTIST. ENDOWMENT INSURANCE.; * The average layman has the impres sion that life insurance is a die-to-win proposition, but all who think this way are mistaken, because it is a fact that ! it is a winning proposition whether the assured lives or dies. The Mutual Benefit issues policies that guarantee to pay the assured the face of the policy in cash at the end of Ten, Fifteen or Twenty years, if living, or at prior death, whether that event occurs on the day the policy is delivered and paid for, or on any other day previous to the end of the Ten, Fifteen or Twentv vear Deriod. Policies carry ing this guarantee cost more than a I Ten, Fifteen or Twenty Pay life policy?a life policy being a contract in | which the face or principal sum is payable at death, but under the unique | accelerative endowment plan of the Mutual Benefit a life policy is converted into an endowment and the premium is the same as is charged on any other life policy. The only difference being that instead of using dividends to reduce cost .they are allowed to accumulate. The plan and its advantages cannot be satisfactorily explained within the space that is available, and if you are Interested, and you should be if you are not, if you will indicate a desire for further information it will be my pleasure to furnish It.
