ernor of South Carolina. Ha said that t he had never been elected by the people of the state to a public office of high importance. He said that he was elected to the general assembly, and gave his record as speaker of that body. He told of his election by the legislature to the associate justiceship and then to the chief Justiceship. He said that he had been at the head of two branches of the government? the legislative and Judicial?^nd that he was able to fill the position as chief executive. He said that there were many things for a chief executive of a state to do; and promised, if elected, propW erly to enhance the state's reputation abroad. "I will be a safe, sound, progressive and fair governor. I will not be the governor of those people who voted for me. No man can get up and say that I am governor of 'my friends.' J You may not vote for me, but I will give you a square deal. One great man In our public life has said, 'I will go to hell for my friends." "But here is my way of thinking: I - * ?I Kilt will not go to neu ior my incuuo, I'll tell you what I will do; I'll go to the brink of hell to pull him back. ^ There's your difference. I will not go to hell but I'll go to the brink to save him. "Which motto will you take? "If any man thinks there are any feathers on my legs he's mistaken. I'm used to fighting; in fact that's what ff' I'm here for. It was too quiet up there on the supreme court bench, and I'm keen to get into the fight. "With reference to the motto, let me suggest 'trust,' in place of friend. 'Stand by your trust' and pray that your friends will not have you do anything else. I thank you." Some of the reporters are only looking .for "copy" that tends to lower the esi timatlon of Blease In the minds of the people. They are not looking for, and do not write the other kind. They should write the news as it is, and then if a majority of the voters want Blease another term, they should have him. In a lot of things?a whole lot? we don't agree with the governor, but there are other times when he should be commended. His opponents will ^ injure, if they keep it up, the cause for which they are working.?Farm and Factors*. AT THE CHURCHES. BAPTIST. f Sunday Services?Sunday school at 10 a. m.
