, LETTER FROM CHEROKEE. ? ' Fact* of Mora or Laaa Neighborhood Interest, and 8oma Commanta About tha Proposed Cession of a Slice of York. Cort-MpoDtfaaca Tha Yorkvllle Boqulrar Wilkinsville, February 13.?It la rumored that Thomas A. McKeown, formerly of Hickory Grove, who moved with his family to Lamar county, ^ Texas, about twenty years ago, Is _ dead. We haven't been able to find V- out the certainty of the report. Geo. : B. Estes, formerly of this county, who moved to Texas about the same time and settled at Brookston. has moved with his family to Faris, Tex., and gone into the hardware business. ^ ^Miss Minnie Palmer, wfto is teaching school at this place, spent last Saturday and Sabbath with her parents at Sharon. This day one year ago, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Estes celebrated their golden wedding. With the exception of what we see ^ in The Enquirer in reference to the cutting off of a strip of York county to annex to tms tcneroKee; cuumy, we know nothing whatever. We heard a rumor seme time last year that such a move was on hand, but didn't know that the work had actu^ ally begun, though it is in a rather remote part of the county from-where we live, and we don't by any means, know all .hat is going on. Anyway, we haven't any objection to having as many of those good "Seceders" as possible added to the citizenship of Cherokee county. They are, generally speaking, a good people?a people who recognize no law as equal to the Ten Commandments, and in this particular they are exactly right, not simply because we say so, but because it is so. But we can't believe that such . an annexation will ever be completed; p- particularly in the face of the fact f that it may eventually result in the removal of the York county court house to Rock Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Bcyce Whisonant of j/* Wilkinsville, have some right aick children, especially their oldest child, ^ Clyde. ^Two of our neighbor boys. Walter and Jesse Kirby, have gone into the mercantile business at Hickory Grove and we wish for them a fair divide of the public patronage. Mr. C._Wash Mc.Keown whp is now in the hospital at Gaflfney. we are sorry to learn is not getting along so well with his broken thigh or hip. We learn that in his sleep he made a sud den move that injured the fracture. He is one of our very best men?an old Confederate soldier?the orderly sergeant of Co. F, 15th S. C. regiment, Kershaw's brigade, McLaw's division, Longstreet's corps. He was in all or most of the principal battles in which ^ the Army of Northern Virginia was engaged. Besides he was wounded and left for dead at Chlckamauga. Nothing cheers him so much in the confines of his sick room as a word of cheer and the hearty handshake of his old comrades or their children. Mr. McKeown Is and has been commander of Camp Jeflferies U. C. veterans since its organization, fifteen years ago. Mr. John L. Strain, who has been under treatment at the city hospital at Gaflfney for nearly two weeks, was able to return to his home yesterday morning, much improved in health. Owing to the- continued bad weather" er the country people have done but little outdoor work. They can do llt* tie more than make fires and sit by them. q< Capt. J. B. Bell of Gaflfney. who is hi editor of the Congressional Directory * at Washington, has kindly sent us the ^ January edition of the book. It is an invaluable aid to one who wishes to V1811 or Know anyining avuui. tional capital. Captain Bell Is a York county boy and has made his home In Cherokee county, where he gets a good law practice. He will be at home w and in the practice of his profession A except when he is In Washington enW gaged In editing the Congressional Dlrectory.,*.., - .... , - . V J ?The senate on Tuesday night passed a bill authorizing an appropriation of $100,000 to be used for the erection of a building for the supreme ? court. ? Columbia special of February 13 to the News and Courier: Mr. McDow withdrew from the files his bill to prohibit any express company from taking or accepting orders for whisky to be shipped into this state and to re. quire express companies to permit an inspection of their books and records by all officers of the state and counties. If YOU should meet with an accident that either totally or partially disabled you, or be confined to your room by sickness of any kind for a week or longer, would your income become impaired or stop? If it would do either, you NEED Health and Accident insurance. If your disability in no way impaired your income, why then you are not insurable, because Accident and Health insurance is only Intended to indemn'fy the assured against loss to the extent for which he is insured, and for this reason none except income earners are insurable. If you should become disabled either by accident or sickness, and are in the insurable class, don't you think you would suffer much less mental anguish if you knew you were AETNAIZED and had a Guarantee, backed by $100,000,000 that your income would continue for 200 weeks if your disability should last so long?
