HICKORY GROVE NOTES. Protracted Meeting Result* Success* fully?Personal Mention?Badly Hurt By Infuriated Calf. lerresDondtnce of th# Yorkrllle Rnauircr. Hickory Grove, July 28.?The protracted meeting at Mt. Vernon M. E. church under the auspices of Messrs. I/eitch and Marshall, closed Wednesday night. The attendance was good during nearly all the services: but toward the last, especially in the evening services, the church could not accommodate the people. On Wednesday evening between 50 and 100 people failed to get In the church. As a result of the meeting twenty-five connected themselves with the various churches, besides much irtterest being iKmopallv It ia tn he honed UiailUCOkVu 5VHVI u>v ?? that much and lasting good will result. Rev. Leitch certainly condemned evil of all kinds in no uncertain tone. Mr. and Mrs. McElroy of Doraville, Oa., are visiting the family of their daughter, Mrs. G. L. Kerr. Mrs. Mildred Amos of Spartanburg, and Mrs. C. J. Youngblood of Yorkville, have been visiting the family of their father at Hopewell this week. Mr. Will Childers was pretty seriously hurt yesterday evening as the result of an attack by a vicious calf. Several parties were trying to catch the calf and the line with which it was tied becoming entangled about a bush, Mr. Childers attempted to get hold of it. The animal dashed at him, and carried him on its horns against a hickory tree. At that moment a dog seized the animal by the nose, otherwise Mr. Childers would have probably been killed. As it was he was rendered unconscious for some time, and suffered a scalp wound beside other bruises, but is getting along fairly well now. Mrs. Mamie Estes is quite sick at the home of her mother, Mrs. Nancy Smith. History Repeats.?A correspondent writing to the New York Times recounts the fact that the markets in 1850 were filled with spurious drugs. As a result, he states: "A pure drugs bill was passed at the instance of the apothecaries in 1852, and only by their united and energetic work. Dr. Bailey, a most capable and upright man, was appointed the first inspector. His rulings and decisions were so in accord with the law and its intent that the 'interests' succeeded in having him removed after two or three years' service. His removal created such a clamor that it compeuea no reinstatement. He was appointed to the best of my memory In 1852, and removed In 1855, and reinstated, I think, In 1856 or 1857. It does seem to me as If the present action against Dr. Wiley and Dr. Rusby is but a repetition of Dr. Bailey's case." Only Dr. Wiley is not going to be removed.?News and Courier. AT THE CHURCHES.
