More and Better Buildings?Cotton Mill Employees Make Big Record as Meat Raisers. Correnpondfnee The Yorkrllle Enquirer Clover. Jan. 27.?Mr. W. B. Stroup is erecting anotner oritn. between the building1 in which W. B. Stroup & Bro. do business and the two-story building he erected last summer. The new building is to have a glass front and the front of the old building is to be torn out and a new glass front substituted and an addition made to the rear that will make it the same length of the two new ones. The new building now being constructed is expected to be completed In about thirty days and will be occupied by the "City Drug Store," a new concern to be under the management of Mr. Ed Brison. Jackson Brothers have recently completed a neat and substantial one story frame building, about 24x100 feet, to be used as a vehicle and harness repository. Dr. M. B. Neil, and Dr. R. U Wylie expect to erect handsome residences during the coming summer on lots they have bought on the same street and west of the new school building. It is probable tbat Mr. W. H. Pursley will also erect a residence on the same street. Mr. Walter McElwee will erect a residence in the same section of town, but on Constitution street. It is said that the aggregate net weight of the home raised hogs slaughtered on the "mill hill" during the present winter was 23,000 pounds, many of them weighing more than 400 pounds, in fact the porker that weighed * nassitifr notice. less ntiruij amcivix.,* None were killed that were so large as that of Mr. J. A. Clinton, which weighed about 575: the next largest being one raised bv Mr. H. B. Maxwell, which weighed 550 pounds. Dr. M. B. Neil has been peculiarly unfortunate in the matter of losing fine horses recently. He had a valuable animal burned in Quinn's stable on the morning of December 12. and another for which he naid J300 to die on Wednesday morning. ? Columbia. January 26: For the purpose of securing for South Carolina the National Corn exposition for 1912, business organizations in several cities are todav working on plans to send large delegations to Columbus. O.. January 30 to February 11. It is said that Governor Judson A. Harmon is unite favorably disposed toward the south, and the remarkable corn crop of the south in the last two years may influence the directors to allow the exposition to come south next vear. The corn show in Columbus will prohabv attract a hundred thousand visitors during the two weeks, and it is believed half that number would be drawn to Columbia. The State Agricultural and Mechanical societv will probably erect a building suitable to house the exhibits, and Columbians will guarantee reduced hotel rates The local Chamber of Commerce will send a delegation, the Southern Hallway will send Col. M. V. Richards and the Columbia city council will send Mayor Oibbes. In addition to these, private individuals have subscribed to the cause. Charleston has promised aid. along with Florence, St. Matthews and other communities. Conservative people are of the opinion that the securing of the National Corn Exposition will be the greatest boost for South Carolina and the south of anything since the Charleston and Atlanta expositions. The cheap farm lands in this section, together with th<- knowledge of what can be produced here, will be an incentive to bring, it is believed. hundreds of good farmers to the south. Rutherford P. Hayes of Asheville. N. C.. a son of the late President Hayes, is of that opinion, and is in consequence one of the most enthusiastic workers for Columbia. AT THE CHURCHES. YORKVILLE CIRCUIT. Rev. J. Ninety-eight per cent of the world's creamery men use the De Laval. The greater per cent of these men know what it takes to handle milk to the best advantage. The skim milk fed hot and sweet to the pigs and calves is worth 100 per cent more. Enough differencee saved to pay for the little machine in one year. The machine will last 20 years if cared for.
