II ROCK HILL AND VICINITY. Completion of tho Aragon Mill?Per. tonal and Other Notes. Correspondence of the Yorkrille Enquirer. Rock Hilj.. May 27.?The Aragon the new cotton mill on the northern edge of the city, was formally turned over to the owners by the contractors, T. C. Thomson & Brother, Saturday, The mill Is a handsome one and up tc date In construction In every particular. The building was begun in October last, and work has gone forward steadily. The mill Itself will be operated entirely by electricity. There will be a steam plant connected with It. but for the sole purpose of pumping water for tire protection. A 50,000 f gallon tank will serve as the standpipe and will be filled by water from a branch near the mill, brought to the reservoir by the steam pump mentioned. The installment of machinery has already begun and it is expected that the mill will be in operation in about t six weeks. Mr. Alex Long is president r\t the eomnanv building the mill and Mr. L. D. Pitts, the secretary and treasurer. Both of these gentlemen were former citizens of Laurens. It is stated that the old Carolina hotel will be remodelled throughout frcm top to bottom and made into a first-class hostelry. It is also rumored that some of the purchasers of the J. S. White property recently sold have I in view the building of a hotel. A livestock insurance company has been organized here with Mr. J. Alex Williford as president; Mr. Sid Clin. ton secretary and treasurer, and Mr. J. M. Williford as manager. It will be a stock company with a guarantee r fund and will insure horses and mules against death. A charter has been applied for. Joe Hart, a negro living south of the city,' a maker of rustic furniture, was badly cut in the throat Sunday afternoon by a white man, W. L. Merritt, an operative at the Bellevue mills. The facts in the case cannot yet be learned, but it is supposed that the cause of the row was not very remotely detached from blind tiger booze. Bishop Capers presided at the Church of Our Saviour Sunday morning. confirming a class of eleven after morning service. In the afternoon he preachdd at St. Paul's chapel and confirmed .a class. In the evening he preached at Winthrop college. Mr. Arthur McFadden, formerly of Rock Hill, a son of Mr. L. Brown Mc* Fadden of Marion. N. C.. and Miss Ruth Johnson of Davidson, N. C., were married at the bride's home Wednesday evening, by the Rev. Dr. Graham. The newly wedded couple are visiting relatives here before going to their home in Marion. Mr. McFadden is a $ freight conductor on the Rock Hill division of the Southern. v'*-? niw P Smith, of this city. will be married Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home in Hampton street to Dr. W. H. Dial of Laurens, The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. Watson B. Duncan of St. John's M. E. church. Immediately after, Dr. and Mrs. Dial will board the Southern for a wedding journey In the north. i The C. M. A. ball team went down to Wlnnsboro Friday and Saturday and practiced some on the famous team of the good old borough. The score on Friday was 18 to 5 in favor of C. M. A. Saturday the Fairflelders picked up a little?very little though, ^ and the figures were 13 to 9. Mr. W. J. Roddey went to the meeting of the Davidson college trustees In Charlotte last veek upon a pleasant mission. It was to present to the Rev. Dr. W. L. Lingle, chairman of the board, a memorial gift from the congregation of the First Presbyterian church of Rock Hill to their former pastor. The gift was an elegant Tiffany watch purchased by Mr. Roddey while in New York recently. The fund for this purpose was contributed by f those alone who were members of the congregation and the amount sub. scribed by each member was limited to one dollar. Accompanying the watch was a memorial letter written on parchment and bearing the signature of the donors. The body of Mrs. H. L. Parker of Blshopville, who was Miss Mamie Hull of this city, reached here Thursday and was laid to rest by the side of her late father, the late J. J. Hull in Laurelwood cemetery. The Rev. W. B. Duncan of St. John's M. E. church conducted the funeral and the follow lng were the pall bearers: Acuve: Messrs. C. S. May. W. M. Dunlap, M. F. Cobb, Sadler Love, J. M. Ivy and J. B. Sykes. Honorary: Dr. T. A. Crawford, Messrs. R. T. Fewell. A. H. Greene, B. M. Fewell, W. H. Wylte and | W. H. Stewart. Rev. Dr. Alexander Sprunt of the First Presbyterian church of Charleston, stopped here on his way to Davidson college commencement and on Sabbath morning preached to a large congregation In his former church I here. In the afternoon, he made an ? address to the children?it being Children's day at the First church?and in the evening preached at Jennlng's chapel. Nelson, who had intended to leave for Atlanta several rdays ago is sick at the Rock Hill hospital. The news from Dr. J. M. Hunter, who is under treatment in Johns' Hopkins hospital, is that he is slightly better. Dr. and Mrs. Thos. A. Crawford and Mrs. Crawford's mother, Mrs. Poe. will go to Washington, D. C., Saturday, where Dr. Crawford will attend a meeting of the Railway Surgeons' association. Mrs. Herbert Dunlap, who has been visiting in Charleston and Columbia, has returned home. The foregoing statement is based on eight years', experience as agent of the Mutual Benefit IT IS ALSO A FACT That the average man who buys insurance loses sight of the FACT that so far as his family and perhaps his own old age are concerned, he is going Into one of the most important transactions of his life, and buys his insurance with less discrimination than he would a suit of clothes, a hat or a pair of shoes, losing sight of the fact that he cannot force the company to carry out any representation or promise' made by the agent unless it is written in the policy when delivered and accepted.
