McCONNELLSVILLE MATTERS. Excessive Rainfall Retards Farming Operations?Up-to-Date Ginnery and Saw Mill Assured, and Also a Good Prospect For a Furniture Factory? Superintendent Nichols and General Passenger Agent Reid Visit McConnellsville. Oorrefluoiideoce of tlte York vi Me Kuqulrer. McConnelj.svili.e, July 20.?Owing to excessive rainfall during the past six weeks the farmers are unable to finish their plowing. The heaviest fall of the season occurred on the 17th. The lands were badly washed. The farmers of this community have organized a joint stock company and will erect a modern ginnery and saw mill plant at once. The prescribed preliminaries looking to incorporation are now in progress. It is possible that a furniture plant will be added. It Is claimed that there is more hardwood timber in this vicinity than at any point on the Carolina and North Western railroad soutn or Lienoir. Messrs. Nichols and Reld of the C. & N.-W. railroad came up last Wednesday to look over the situation, and to consult our citizens as to the most desirable location for an up-todate depot that they have decided to build here at once. It was practically decided to remove the old warehouse, near which the trains now stop, and erect the depot on its site. A depot is a convenience that the shipping and traveling public has long needed here, there never having been one. and the action of the railroad in supplying it will be appreciated. Although McConnellsville has been a station on the railroad for about fifty-four years it has never been Incorporated and it has been decided to attend to this very important matter without further delay. The necessary application will be made to the secretary or state in me netw McConnellsville Is the centre of one the finest sections In York county, and of course that means that there are none that surpass It anywhere, and the people are beginning to awaken to its possibilities as a live business centre and development into a hustling town, and the outlook seems to be that there will soon be something doing. The new trains. No. 7 and 8 now operated on C. & N.-W. have proven a great convenience to those of our ? citizens who have occasion to 'visit Chester and other points to the south, and judging by the number of passengers the trains are carrying they are evidently paying the company equally as well as Nos. 9 and 10?the old traina With the exception of most too much rain for cotton, crop prospects are very good.
