Perry, clerk of the court for Lancaster county, committed suicide last Wednesday morning at about 10 o'clock by jumping from an O. R. &C. railroad tresile into the swolen waters of Bear creek, about a mile southwest of Lancaster. A school boy saw Mr. Perry climb down to some planks that had been nailed to the timbers of the trestle about 10 feet from tbe top, and jump, and a pedestrian who was summoned by the boy to the rescue, reached the scene in time to find the unfortunate man holding to a bush. ' When Mr. Perry saw the pedestrian, k. however, be turned loose the bush and sank to the bottom. There is no question but that his suicide was premeditated and deliberate. Mr. Perry was at cue lime a cadet in King's Mountain Military school and was about 45 years of age. He was elected cleik of the court four years ago; but was defeated iu the recent, primary election. Since bis defeat he has been very morose. He had, for a long time, been a victim of dyspepsia, and for several months past had been telling his friends that he was afraid he was going to lose bis mind. He made a model officer, was kindbearted, sympathetic and generous, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He leaves a wife; but no children. The cause of his rash act is ^ traceable indirectly, at least, there is little reason to aouoi, 10 uis receui defeat for re-nomination. AT THE CHURCHES. * trinity methodist episcopal.
